Stock 200hp mercury..Carbs?

Why do all pull the stock 200hp mercury carbs off and want the wh20 carbs.

I have a 82 200 Merc. How do you know what carbs you have? Mine have WH cast on them but the other #s are stamped in and look like a part #.
