It's been some time since I've owned a Merc. In fact the last one was a non-oil injected 150. I recently purchased a 1995 XRI 200 with oil injection. The motor has a small oil reservoir just in front of the flywheel. It didn't come with a remote oil tank. Is that small tank the only way that engine gets oil? Seems like I'm missing something.
Yes that’s how it gets oil but most people have the big on board tank. I just through out a whole system with a large in boat tank. I would have given it to you.

Sorry to jump into another's post, but I wanted to get your opinion. I have a 95' 225 promax. I was thinking of removing the
Oil Injection, but it seems more involved than my local mechanic
wants to deal with. Is the Oil Injection prone to failure? I don't plan on raising the rev limiter (6750 I believe), but I also don't
want to worry about the engine seizing everytime I go out. Have
you seen the oil gear failure? Is this a problem Merc has addressed? What would you recommend, keep it or mix?
The oil gears fail constantly. Mixing is always safer but a pain in the ass.

I'd remove the system all together, there is a kit that mercury makes (and others) that allows you to remove the oil pump and shaft and plug off the hole,,,,,, then you pre-mix the fuel and never have to worry about that nylon gear costing you $2500+.

Can you link me the kit or is it as simple as removing/plugging things off?
There is a piece that goes in the block in place of the oil pump. It extends down to the crank and locates a bushing. Without it the bushing can come loose and that would leave a mark.

Ouch yeah it would. I'll do some searching. One of the few things I need to get done to water test in the next week or so. :)

As you have noticed you have had some good replys on your questions. The boat should have an reservoir in the boat that is pressurized to send fluid to the remote tank in front of the flywheel.

if you're gonna turn i tup to higher rpm you need to add oil anyway. Remove injection system completely and put in the plastic shaft plug. It helps crank case volume reduction and helps secure the bronze bushing in cyl bottom... They dont come loose often but they can... You need to run 40 to 1 mix if you turn em on up to higher rpm's

It won't hurt to remove the injection system, save a little weight and go 40-1
