seems to think Sea Doo is the best. Something about not having to take it into the shop to get ripped off by the local marinas. He's a retired Dupont engineer that invented the Rain Dance car wax. Or that's what his kid always tells me.

I've owned almost 20 of 'em in the last 15 years. I like SeaDoos best (personal preference), but I think Yamahas are the most reliable.
You may wanna ask people on one of the jetski forums like greenhulk.net, around this board most people would rather shoot at a jet ski than talk about one.

I've owned over 20 new ones since I bought my first one in 1991. All were SeaDoos except for '96 when I bought 3 new 1100 Yamahas after the SeaDoo dealer sold the XP's I had on order sold em out from under me for more money. (limited allocation of XP's to dealers back then)
Anyhow, I think the SeaDoos are the best by far................ faster, better styling, and have been the most reliable of any toy I've ever owned.
That being said, the company SUX big time. They're the most independent bunch of asses I've ever done business with and when they run the promotions to entice people to buy product they may or may not honor them. I've had issues with them on free extended warranty for buying before April 1st, which they refused to issue, and a couple of years later a $500. gas gift card which was promised, but never would issue even though I sent registered copies of the dealer's paperwork which they acknowledged.
Did I emphasize that they SUCK as far as customer relations go? Great product, SUPER PAIN IN THE ASS company.

We got a New Seadoo last summer, the supercharged 3 seater, and its a rocket. It has unbelievable power, it comes out of the hole like nobodies business, idles great, and is a blast to drive. I imagine the 2 seater version would be even more fun.
It has its annoyances though. Like when you turn it off, and leave the key thing attached, it chirps at you until you take the key off. I guess sometimes technology is to advanced.
It gets good mileage as long as you don't flog it, and expect to pay about 200 bucks for the 10 hour service. It has a learning key which limits speed to about 35, so you can keep the noobs under control.
I really like a seadoo. If you want a fast one, and want to spend the money, I think a Yamaha would be the fastest. There was a guy who had an 80 mph GPS Yamaha. Thats cooking.

If you're looking for the best handling, easiest to ride, easily made the fastest then buy a Yamaha GPR1300. I bought one used in 02 (it's a 2000) and beat the crap out of it every weekend since. I use it as a gauge around my cottage...if you can beat the GPR then I'll go get the boat lol (too bad my boat isn't much faster.....). If you're looking for gas mileage you may want to look at a Yamaha 4-stroke we've got an FX160HO and it's fantastic on fuel and has never missed a beat but it is heavy. It's great for cruising but not quite as much fun for playing.

I've got the 2 seat SuperCharged SeaDoo (RXP). There hasn't been anything on this lake that's as fast as the RXP's as far as pure stock stuff goes.

Pure stock is right. It took me less then $250 to make mine faster (keep in mind mine is only a 1200). I realize that anything can be modded but the GPR's are by far the easiest and cheapest to mod, if you're into that sort of stuff. If you want to leave it box stock and have the fastest boat you can buy then it would have to be the RXP....

You're right about that. Stock, they are still the fastest pwc. If I were to do it over , I'd get the RXT (3 seater version) it's a lot more comfortable if you ride with a passenger and about as fast as the RXP in rough or real choppy water.

The Seadoo product is by far Cutting Edge Technology, vs. The Diehard Dependability of Yamaha. Will say this, the Yammi GP1300R 2 stroke will give the Seadoo RXP 4 stroke a good fight, although the RXP 215hp supercharged, is slightly faster and could be made even faster with stage kits like street bikes, Yammi does not have very many hop-up options. As far as warranty goes Yammaha is more leaniant and can be renued before the period expires, not so for Seadoo, you need to purchase from the start. In Jan.07 I'm awaiting delivery of my first Kawasaki 250hp, weighs in at 1000lbs, will see what it will really do on the water once it's here. Will post reports, I think it will be a good solid ride but not very manuverable because of the weight issue. I will post pics tommorow of The Hydraspace stand up unit all Carbon Fiber, even the handle bars, 375lbs.total weight 110hp Rotary Supercharged Badass machinery with anodised trim nossle, Sweet High Performance Limited Edition Machine sells for $14,000.00 if you can find them.

In rough water, a three seat bike will ride like a Bentley vs. the bouncy ride of a two seater, because of the shorter hull. Believe it or not that little difference which is less than a foot, is all it takes to change the attitude of a bike, but on a flat day the two seater will whip your ass...............LOL

I don't know if I'd call sea-doo's tech all that cutting edge...the built a BIG 4s and dumped a super charger on it (that looses pieces..into the engine!!). The Yamaha 4s performs every bit as well (aside from alittle topend) when comparing 3 person boats without the SC and with much better reliablity. As far as the aftermarket is concerned the GPR is the most modded boat there is..there are literally 1000's of hop-up parts for it...just not from Yamaha. I think it's the only Yamaha on the water that you can actually buy cool parts for (stupid outboards lol)!!!
Remember the GPR is built on the 3-seater hull....

Thanks for all the input. I have a seadoo gsx now, its old but is still fast as hell. From what I'm hearing from the gurus I'm thinkin' Yamaha. Does anyone have experience with the Honda? I want a fast, dependable, 2 seater. Like the "rougher" ride of the 2 seat over the three seat. I would prefer to buy a used model because I like someone else to take the brunt of the depreciation:D I'm not interested in dumping $$$$ into mods.

Go with Yamaha....The GP800R or the GP1300R is going to be a great machine. I had a 2003 GP800R that never gave me any issues. Always fired right up and with a few bolt on mods the ski would run 68mph which is pretty dang quick. I miss the jumping........

I have had two Yamahas [gp1200s 2 seaters] and I now have a Honda F12x [turbocharged 3 seater]. The Honda is the most reliable PWC on the market but it is slow [60 MPH GPS 3 seater]-[ 62 MPH for the R12X 2 seater]. They do have a wet ride from spray.
The Hondas have the most nimble handling [especially the 2 seater, a great surf jumper] followed by the Kawi 15F [3 seater 63 MPH GPS]. The Hondas are rock solid dependable as long as you spray down the engine with CRC after riding in salt. They also get 7 MPG at 55 MPH cruise [17 gallon tank]. The Honda has typical Honda High Quality.
The Kawi 15F is the next best PWC, is nimble, rides dry, gets good gas mileage, plenty of storage and is dependable. They have also introduced a new 250 HP supercharged that is the fastest production PWC.
The Seadoos are fast in a straight line but are not nimble or reliable. The superchargers are known to eat clutches that fragment into the engine along with dozens of other issues. Plan on spending a lot of time at the Dealer and not much time on the PWC.
The Yamahas [GPR] have become much more dependable [they fixed the pin loss from the power valves]and are very fast in a straight line [hold the world record]. The Four stroke is a good rough water cruiser but uses a R-1 engine with gear reduction [lots of revs at cruise].

IF you buy a Yamaha without riding an RXP first, and IF your taste in PWC's is anything like mine, you're gonna be sick if somebody lets you throw a leg on their RXP. I've ridden em all I think and there ain't any comparison. My saying that goes a long way since I'm as pissed with the company as I am. Like I said in the other post.................. great product............. BS company as far as customer loyalty is concerned.:(

I agree,
I bought my Yammi 700 for something to ride while rebuilding the boat, I thought the wife would hate it, but she loves it:rolleyes:
Not the fastest, but the 700 is the most reliable motor on the market, and the XL, is the easiest, and most comfortable ride(with the exception of the SUV).

We ride the hell out of our 2006 and not 1 problem. It also rides and handles like no other machine I've been on and I have ridden most out there. Worth every penny.
