2.0 L merc 200?

Did mercury make a 2.0 L 200? A freind of my said he has a 2.0 200. I havn't ever herd of a 2.0 200. Any one know if it is true?

To my knowledge it was never a production fishing motor. The guys overseas have an XR-2 that is supposedly a high RPM 2.0 race only motor that is rated at 200hp. Different from the mid 80's XR-2 in the States that was a hopped up 150 bassboat motor that was conservatively rated at 150 but probably closer to 165-170hp. He may have stumbled across one of T-REX'S fire breathing 2.0's./ LOL

If the block is unpainted, it might be a 200 HP powerhead. Don't count on it.

He's bullsh&tting you. Unless it's a rare behind-the-liner type 2.0 block or eu/au/nz 2.0 motor, in either case it would probably be unpainted, it's highly unlikely his 2.0 motor is 200 HP. An aggressively ported 9000 rpm motor with tight heads on race gas, perhaps...

What's the point in falsely bragging about horsepower? All it does is give the other guy a bigger woody when he beats you in a race.

I will be buying boat with European 97' XR2 merc in 2 days
It is 2 litre, 200 hp - that is what mercury is saying about its power. It is High Performance customer engine. I believe its rev limiter is in 6500 rpm

I will send you photos of this engine.

What year is your friend's engine??

My freinds engine is an 88 I think I'm not posative, but he did get it from another guy I know that works for a merc dealer down here. Just havn't talked to the guy who used to have it. So I don't know if it dyno'd at 200 after work being done or not. The only thing is that if they did make a 200 2.0 then my question has been answered. This probabally isn't one but they did make one.

Regarding the pictures:
An XR2 race motor indeed. Very nice.
The factory lightweight cowl, blocked-off non-oiler front half, and the lack of paint are key features of most any high-performance Merc V6.

I wuz stay'in cleer ov this conversation, cuz I don't no much about Performance mota's, but after look'in at them pics, I am reely confuzed now....Tha mota kan't be a 88', kuz tha 2.5 came out in 91, and that iz on a 2.5 frame(block)...A sst 120 mota(2.0) would be a 150, BUT, it haz a 5 pedle front half...I have a 2.0 F-1, that iz behind tha liner, and wuz rated @ 300HP with Horn...Tha sst 120 iz NOT a behind tha liner mota, but a sleeved down 2.5, in which the sleeves are ov piston port arrangement( tha ones I've had anyway)...Mercury haz dun sum crazy stuff, this I have confermed from find'in motor combo's that were factory, but mercury deniez exsist!!...

Tha only way U kan varify what U have iz to pop tha head off, measure tha port hieghts, see if'in it'z a nickel mota, or cast sleeve, and wheather it';z a piston port or behind tha liner...U may juss have one ov thoze mota's that wuz Never produced!!!!:rolleyes:

I don't know much about performance engines either as It is first perf engine in my life (after my fathers suzuki 150, and mine suzuki 55, and honda 75 four stroke - wchich was all highy non performance engines)
All I know is that XR2 is very popular race engine in europe, it was and it is still use for offshore racing and skiracing.
Next thing I know it have nothing to do with american mid 80's 2.5 litre XR2
