the boats perfect !never been damaged as far as we can gather its never been over and its super clean ,damien mkenzie and duke have changed the lifting strokes and the transoms been rebuilt all the works pretty impressive ,the same running gear on this hull went onto damiens gtr and this boat was 6mph faster ,its got good compression ,bails reckons this is the boat to race at the bridge because its straight and true not offset ,n quick up top.its still st f1 length but im leaving it the way it is.
hey kim that spin i had at mildura was wat happens when you go from a 5 blader to a 4 blader ,totally different boat .

I bought some props of a pest in the states and he has been flogging me to test them .The figures below are GPS the Tach played up a bit and some wakeboards boats got in the way as per usual .
1850LW Bullet with a stock 06 200 Merc .LW pick up and hyd plate etc,etc .
1.30 Pitch Chopper 2 labbed, extra cupping around the tip and i think he has done something else to it .Remembering i am limited to 6200 or there abouts ,we hit 86mph on the limiter going with the tide ,5400rpm saw 75 mph, average acceleration but fun to drive
2.28 Pro Et Stock good acceleration ,80mph on the limiter ,5400rpm saw 70 mph too much bow lift for the Bullet .
3.30 Mazco RE 4 Good acceleration ,less bow lift than the ET almost identical speeds .nicest prop of the 3 to drive with .

best ive seen so far was 114 @8grand with a 10x18 5blader ,pretty good accelleration ,well better than an f2 boat anyway!
thought the chopper would have had more lift than the ET. 4 blades will always stick like sh%# to a rug.

Cherokee is my latest toy. It is a blue 1750 Bullet with a 135 Merc.
Had it for a few months now and was wondering if anyone knows any history.
Was on eBay earlier this year and lived in Sydney's Southern suburbs.
Spinning a 23 cleaver I had lying a round it revs to 5200 into the wind, with the wind, in flat water, in chop. The conditions seem to make no difference. Almost like there is a rev limiter or something.
The chine walk is interesting. The motor is about 2 inches above the transom, maybe needs a little higher and has tilt tube push pull steering. Runs much better with a passenger.
Not sure how to post photos.
Really needs paint and trim, but otherwise appears to be solid.
Any info would be appreciated.

Check out earlier pages of this thread as there would be loads of setup talks.
motor hight is measured by the hight difference brtween the running plain of the boat (flat bit at the bottom of the boat) to the Prop shaft. start with your prop shaft something like 2-3 inches below and see how it feels. a small adjustment can make a big change so go bit by bit.
being a bullet and having the weight of a feather, you will need to get the balance right, i found a bag of sand on the observer seat worked well if i did not have someone else.
the chine walk can only be fixed with practice

haha fair enough... have you always owned it? I remember the Ice Man from years back...
no i have only owned it for a couple of months. wanted to have a boat i could take the family out in and also race. wife is not real keen so i have got a l/weight tunnel deck bullet to race which i will strap a S3000 on.
i put a 2.5l merc that had a bit of work done on the 1800. staight out of the box with a gps i pulled 92mph. first time i had driven an 1800 as i always raced a 1750, i was very easy to drive and felt like it did it easy. i can see why a lot of ski racers still race them.
Ice Man has been around a fair while and what i have been told is a true hand laid light weight. I think it has won a fair bit over the years. the origional bullet boat co boats far exceed the newer build boats.

Hi boys. Just found out that the new Straightpoint Bullet was called So Long, it was yellow and had a mural of a mexican on the deck.It was owned by Dave Jennings and had run 114 MPH with a V6 Merc 6 pack on methenol. Also won the Bert Hines U/L mono twice. It then went ski racing and was called Southern Express, Then Solven, Then Doggy fashion and now Straightpoint.

I have been keeping an eye out for some good tunnel decks but nothing seems to be comming up.
So decided to draw up a modern version that will be built with modern techniques.
Please any input from guys currently racing or previously raced these tunnel decks let me know of things to look out for or that would be good to have if you had the chance.

I'm not sure if any made it over there, but I'm sure some of the other guys may be able to answer that better than I can.
The old tunnel deck Bullets are definatly a great looking boat, but more importantly they do the business...
There is no dedicated race boats avalible any more like the old tunnel decks, just social boats made light with huge power plants. That are about as aerodnamic as a brick...

Nice looking boat. Right up the ally I'm looking at.
Can I ask the usual silly questions, how heavy, how old?
I have been getting more and more excited about the new one for a few features that the old boats dont have. The new design weight study brings it in at 75-80kg(165-175lbs) and very stiff. The laminate is based on the F2 ski boat we are using for the next worlds, it is very stong and a very light 20fter.
The other thing is the extra length, you may be the best person to coment on this it it will be better or not.

I'm coming back from the states in 10days with a S3000 to drop on my 1850 bullet for some initial social fun, but want to change out of the bullet to something lighter due to my longing to get into some racing, circuit and bridge to bridge maybe. Don't get me wrong the Bullet is awesome and great fun when have it set up right, but when we had it built in '03 it was layed up pretty heavy on the scales due to only social fun.
I really like the new Labsports, what's everyone's opinion on the best monohull for circuit or bridge to bridge?

It is interesting you say the 1800 has been adding weight to get it to sit properly. The Full light weight carbon Cyclone 20 the owner had befor I built him his new Cyclone 20 F2 complained of the same thing, to light handels like ****. (I built his boat out of the same Cyclone 20 moulds with permision from Cyclone, long story)
The new F2 i Built him is exactly the same weight maybe a fraction lighter and handels like a dream, particuarly in full off shore racing conditions. I put alot of effort into CG placement and making the as built boat CG and weight within 5mm and 2kg of what I wanted. There was also a huge effort in the design of tankage and hardware to concerntrat mass around the CG to minimise the moments of inertia. This was one of the big problems with the original carbon boat, all the weight at the ends of the boat.
Any way I'm babling, so a 100kg bout would still be considered light in circut racing terms, I was led to beleve all the old light weight bullet TDs were around 100kg. I guess you cant belive all the stories you here.
Ski race and circut race are the 2 main activities I'm looking at. Would be looking at fat boxes to start with until funds alow for nice underwater gear.

2.5 S3000 on a 1850 bullet, until I find a lighter more suitable circuit/river boat. Thinking a lab, although we have an old exrace lightweight matra missile at the shop. I'm thinking of putting the S3 on it when i have time. I think its 18ft not sure will have to measure it.

stick to the bullet ,labs no good in circuit ,matras to dangerous with that much power ,you will be spinning out all the time ,an 1850 normal weight boat will drive over the top of the chop you may want to widen the plank to 275mm it will still run alright as it is .wats the deal with the s3000?ported /stock?do you know how to tell the difference between an s3000 and a 280?if it is an s3000 you will have to change the starter and flywheel to right hand as it will spin left .

whats the story on the missile being dangerous/spinning out?

10-27-2010, 12:31 AM
I picked the S3000 yesterday off Chris Fairchild an F1 driver here in the US, it was his backup engine, unmolested original S3, with pump fuel heads, we changed out the flywheel, starter and Timing arm linkage, he also remapped an A6 curve for me to run slighter richer to suit my boat, not running with SVS slidefront intake, running it with the horn on the front until I want to race it. Also Grabbed a new exhaust tuner off him and plate to suit my mid while I was there. Im pumped should be a good rig!
So the Labs no good in the tight stuff you reckon.. Ive never driven one, always wanted one though. The 1850 is a great boat and awesome through rough stuff, Its built to social ski weight which when we had it built they told me it was arund 350kg. Stil not the best in the tight corners though. Ile see how she goes with the new powerhead should be a big change going from the 225x promax we use to run on it.

I imported a stv to aus back in the early 90,s cant remember what it cost but i think it was about 10k including duties. the way the dollar is at the moment it would be cheeper to import rather than build one. you could get a smoking hot fast STV including engine for the cost of building a boat only in Aus

Hi guys I'm new here, thought I'd share this photo of the boat my dad used to observe in through the 90s. Bullet 1750 Tunnel Deck - "Frantic"
I was only 10 or 11 when they ran their last race in it, so I can't remember too much, apart from winning the 145-175hp class in the '97 speed and marathon nationals at Lake Jindabyne.
Hopefully some people here remember it! Last I heard it now belongs to a bloke in Tassie who circuit races it. Would love to track him down and find out how it's going nowadays!

Sorry for the multiple replies haha, I tried posting a few times and it kept saying server time out so I tried again and again, not realising that it actually was appearing!
I'll have to ask the ex driver if he knows anything about what's happened to it since, but that could well be it. Would be fantastic if it was!
I wish I had more info on the boat, but seeing as I was just a youngen when the guys retired from racing I don't really know. All I know is that it was bloody quick and competitive, from trophies at my old mans place it looks like it won the 141-175 seasons a couple of times, class wins at Grafton, Somerset (I think), '97 nationals. As far as I know the only race they never got around to getting a class win was the Sydney Bridge to Bridge, and that really peeved them off hahaha. I will have to confirm this all with the old man, of course!

heres a rear pic of my 2003 1850 social with Unmolested '00 S3000 15"mid. Boat/trailer up for sale some time this year.
Im looking to go into a Twin Rig Bullet, either twin 280's or twin Etecs.
Was hoping to squeeze twin motors on the back of the new 1950 bullets being made. Im pretty sure the new model 1950 hasn't had twin's on it before as it's only been in production for maybe 1-2years?
I dont know if the hull will handle all the weight, I dont wanna go to a 2150 if I dont have too...

Hey GMJIM,
the guys who did all the work are masters of their field, Pete had spent time working out weights, balance points etc before fitting which when we put it on the water paid off. The rear cowl started as just a flat sheet of laid up glass on a table, was interesting watching it take shape.
no bolts, it's all carbon/carbon Kevlar/Kevlar etc etc

The 2150 hasnt been out long. The 99 Psycho Clowns boat on the website crashed in its 2nd big race. Tragically the observer was killed. The triple rig hasn't raced yet, apparently ironing out issues.? I believe there is a few others either completed or being rigged but haven't seen or heard much yet.
All the other bullet boats are tried and proven, very fast river/lake boats indeed!

362604Hi all. Recently bought an older Bullet 1800. It must've been fitted with an Evinrude V6 175 in 1990.
The boat has obviously been changed around a bit. I'm just curious about what was original or not like:
1. It now has a water ballast tank up front. The "fill" point on top front of the boat was bogged over. Was this always just for water, or for fuel?
2. It has absolutely no bilge, was this normal? It appears the rear has been fibreglassed over. I'm wondering if I can create a fibreglass bilge pit, but have no idea where the reinforced ribs are. Right now I've rigged up a diaphragm pump so it can suck the shallow water out.
And replacement windscreens. Any idea who and where? It has the little "dip" across the top. Every boat windscreen place I've called either can't make one, or doesn't ring back.
Thanks all!
/Also I've learned the hard way about painting fibreglass in 2-pack. What a nightmare!
