I've read in an old Italian magazine "Rombo" an article about the Key West Offshore race, held on November 1985, the last round of the 1985 World offshore Championship.

During first heat of the race an accident happened and Dick Fullman (driver) and Mike Popp (throttleman) lost their lives.

Does someone of you know anything about this sad fact?
Thanks.

I do......

Dick Fullam and Mike Poppa were killed in an Open Class, aluminum Cougar , Still Crazy, after a "stuff". Both men received mortal injuries and were crushed in the boat by water pressure and collapsing cockpits..... I believe one of the bodies was recovered floating , while the other was in the hull, which sunk almost immediately. The accident occurred off Sand Key after turn one into the Gulfstream.

Fullam was an ex football player and relatively new to racing.

Why are you asking?
