View Full Version : Need Big V Speed-HELP

I need (want) a single engine 27-30' V that can break the (gps) century with 750-800 ponies. The local champ has a cat maxed at 99..... So it's 100mph plus or go home.:D
I mainly run sheltered inshore or lakes, but every so often I bump around offshore.
The boats I am considering and believe will achieve my goals/boating style are Progression, Activator, and kryptonite.
Superboat, Nordic, and a few others work, but seem to need closer to 900Hp.
900Hp and a Bravo drive seems like a bad idea (800 is bad enough).
I do not want a cat.
I have spent hundreds on long distance phone calls and spent countless hours reading web pages, but the best and most honest seem to hang here.
Am I barking up the right tree, or should I be looking at other boats?
Thanks in advance!

You need to contact Velocity Powerboats in Sanford Fl. Their boat can surely handle the task.

The Kryptonite will definitely do it........... I doubt very seriously that the others you mentioned will...maybe the Progression.

We have not run the first I/O version yet, but... the twin outboard version of the TUFF 28 ran 90.1 mph with two Merc 250xs motors.
So if we did a little calculated guessing here, we had about 525hp in the outboards, and they weigh almost the same as a single big block, then notch the bottom to shift the balance ( also take one gearcase out of the picture ) I would guess that 700hp would put you well past 100mph. It has not been tried yet but I don't believe I'm out of line this.

Thanks for all of the quick replies!
This site is great!
Who builds Kryptonite, how are they built, and how do I contact them (him)?
Jeff Cooper (JC Performance Engines) told me that Krytonite is built by some fellow in his spare time?
Jeff mentioned Lightspeed's boat as a first class ride.
It has his 598 of course.
Jeff said that 750 Hp will push a properly rigged Activator to 100mph.
Who builds Activator, and how do I reach them? Will call MRD, but I'm old school and would like to talk to the builder not a salesman (no offence to MRD).
Lightspeeds ride is smokin. The pictures of the rigging look as professional as it gets, the interior has the perfect old school hotrod look!, and the engine/exhaust..Major hotrod!
I am tempted.... And my Poker run partner is ready to kill me for not writing the cheque, but I need to carefully sort out my options and need to better understand the hulls.
Tuffboat,
Have seen your 21...Nice work!
Do you have a 28 I/O in the works?

Knotwright,
Lightspeed's Krypto is worth every penny!! Much money and time in rigging alone. Absolutley turn key ready!! He rigged that boat with the labor of love. My 02 cents. Tony

Lightspeed,
I will probably regret it, but I don't want to waste anyones time until I make up my mind.
I'm not a tire kicker.:(
I am sure that if I fly out and look at your boat, my hand will write the cheque before my brain knows what it's doing!:D :D
Some of the other N.Y. boat guys expressed concern about driving a high performance boat (engine) in 27 degree water? Is the ocean really that cold your way??? I have no experience with water that cold.
I was impressed with Jeff Cooper. First of all he answered the phone at about 8:30PM N.Y. time while eating dinner (I intended to leave a message and offered to call back), then he patiently answered my questions. No ego, no BS, lots of references, and he seemed like a great guy to work with.
A guy like that will return your calls when you are having problems....Unlike my last builder:mad:
If I don't buy your boat,I think Jeff will build my next engine.
Thanks to everyone else for the input.
