Okay guys need your help. The plate on the bottom is the one that came out of the 1976 850XS.

Note the difference from the top, darker plate that came out of a similar motor, i purchased to replace it sight unseen.

didnt think there was a difference between these.

whats the reason for the difference?/ Will either work ?

thansk

is the newer one, it fools the motor to think the exhaust ports are the same distance from the TUNNA which is different on the later motors. The outer exhaust plate is also different. The exhaust ports are also higher and 3 big like 150 motors. And you didn't think merc was doing anything as the clock tics. Find a 1985 75 hp and use every thing thats not shortshaft.;)

Dave - your right the outer exhaust / water jacket baffle plate has the same outline as the lower inner baffle.

So i should not use the top inner baffle plate ?

Do you know what engines have this same inner plate??

thanks

The newer stuff, it's better made and newer designed. Not sure but probaly all CDI motors have. If you tire from buying junk go to your local scrap yard for good deals, they might have a whole motor come in, people are moving up to 4strokes.;)
