hi my name is dennis and live in australia, in australia our fastest single hull boats are called BULLET. i own a bullet 14 foot 50 or 1450 with a racing johnson 140hp crossflow.i'm only 17 "i may seem young but love boats" i am a outboard mechanic for the past 4 years, all my life my dad has owned johnson outboards. about 7 years ago he purchased a second hand crossflow 140 on his fishing boat and since then i was in love with the crossflow's. then as i started working as a mechanic i got my ski boat, and i put together a crossflow myself. it was a stock block with stock reeds and stock flywheel as well as the belly type exhaust. i was spinning 22 pitch raker wich gave a top speed of about 65 miles max. the only problem was that the engine was rebuilt with 3 30 thou oversize pistons and 1 standard, so i guess my engine wasnt even. first run i took it out i put some hours on it just cruzin bak, then i just opened the throttle and whoa wat power never felt it before, started trimming the engine up then on gps 65. but as i was slowing down i heard a realy noisy rattly noise coming out of the engine. it didnt harm it. so bak to my place and the power head on the bench. so on a sunday morning i stripped the engine down and saw that it started overheating and scored the no 4 piston. so bought a new set of genuine pistons cut the xp on the intake side and a new set of chrome rings. put it together next day on the water. ran fine no worries had alot of fun a bit of showing off. but then i thought if i am going to race this engine i will have to get all 4 cylinders on 30 thou., so back on the bench, but thistime i sent the block to get bored out got it back the next day, then later that night , the person who bored the block for me gave me a phone call saing ive got a racing v4 large main crank for you. 30 seconds later i was on the road rushing to get this crank. slammed it in my new motor, and got a set of carbon fibre reeds. put it together the next day and the day ater that it was on the water. i went for a spin down the river then i said to my self lets see what this motor can do. full biki all the way down the coast 1 hour flat, not a single beat, beautiful running engine, but what i didnt know was that my boss and his son where down there waiting for me on the water in the boats, so we just cruzed it back for a while, then there is this fella we call concrete john, he has a 21foot millenium kevlar race hull with a offshore drag trunk, speedmaster gearbox, 23 pitch racing yamaha prop and a 2.0 litr mercury sst120 stock block. this guy thinks he owns the fastest boat on the water he does speeds just over 80miles an hour, so i though, my new engine rebuilt yesterday i'm gonna race it today, so of we go a bit of a warm up to see what weve got, then my bosses son jumped in my boat "he was driving" because he drives better than me at high speeds, of we went from where we where to a beacon which was 1 klm away do a u turn and race back past our rescue boat. the only thing i was doing at the end was i was crying i won, gps 84.7 mph. he was pissed of, ive never seen him like it before but i guess thats just the victory. he was so furious he got any tool out of his tool box pullet any part out and said yeeah my engine wasnt running good (watever), since that race which was in late september his motor is still in pieces till this day, but his last words to me was i will race you on christmas day you and me 1 on 1 sigle driving. i gave him a hand shake and i said no worrie, but at the back of my head i was kinda worried cause i know that no one would put that much pressure on there cross flow like i would.then 1 month later on ebay in australia there where 2 engines for sale they where together, 1 was a stock 140 johnson 1978 small main crank, and the othe was a kc13r super strangler power head on a stock midsection, well i bout them for $900, 21 pitch prop, gauges, both engines, lots of little parts etc, i pulled it apart as soon as i got it. put it away and i was going to keep it as my racing collection motors. but a few weeks after that i done a comppresion test on my motor that i raced and all the cyliders where sitting on around 135 to 140 psi but no 3 was sitting on 128, so i said something must be wrong, so i pulled it down and found out that the pistin ring locater the pin has slid up on high rpms and pushed the rings into the bores and scoring it. so i said forget about this block i threw it in the bin. then the next problem was that i had no engine now but then i remembered that i have a stock 140 from ebay. i pulled it out gave it a guich hone a clean, then when everything was cleaned on it i said to myself this is the cleanest v4 i have ever seen in my life, pulled down once bored 30 thou, not a single score and corrosion, so this was my new motor, so here comes out the trust die grinder, and a full day of porting, my second engine ive ported in my life. i ported the #$%^ out of it. especially the intake, cleaned the block up , put my super strangler crank in it , a new set of xp pistons, a new set of chrome rings, te super strangle rexhaust, lightweight flywheel etc. hen it was donw i looked back and said to my self i am not driving this because i reackon it will be fast. i'm still working on my midsection, trying to fit thr strangler exhaust bracket to the trunk.

now sorry for the long interesting life of my v4's but i would like to know every thing of the v4's

racing engines, max rpms, engine diagrams, alot of infomation if any one could give me regarding johnson/evinrude v4's please i need your peoples help.

Welcome!! Good to see another OMC person. I don't have any experience with the V-4's but there are some OMC GURUS on here, One for sure you might want to chat with would be "6 Killer" from what I have heard he is the best with the V-4's (hence the name) also "Racer" is a well known OMC scientist,
Look around the Tech forum for a thread called Frankenrude.... and you'll see a lot from the OMC guys.
