Yamaha/OMC ignition conversion question

I think.. :) I’m getting close to completing my Yamaha/ Omc ignition conversion. Thanks to a lot of help from the members on this board. The ignition donor was from a 1987 200 Hp. Yamaha.
Inside the Cdi unit cover there is a rectifier/regulator on top the Cdi unit in the middle and a Black Box Control unit on the bottom. The control unit has five wires coming from it. Four wires connect to the lower left-hand side of the Cdi unit. I think the unit controls overrev and temperature buzzer. Can I remove the control unit from the cdi?

Yes you can. it is the rev limiter for alarm functions as well as over rev.

You can, I don't run it. Where did you get the bearing carrier? I need a spare.

Joe...I got the bearing carrier from Wayne Taylor. Could anyone share with me how to wire the cdi unit when I remove the control unit? I noticed in a picture on the board of a 2.6 Yamaha motor without the control, on the left hand side of the Cdi unit the bottom terminal was empty .The next terminal up had two wires hooked up to it. Number three terminal was empty and number four had one wire hooked up. Any idea what terminal two and four do? Mike

Hey Mike, I'll try to take a picture of how it all goes tomorrow. If I remember correctly you just leave the wires off and run it. I wish Wayne would get some more bearing caps. Maybe one of these days....

Just take the control unit off completely or disconnect the white wire to eliminate the limiter. If you disconnect the white wire only remove the one going to the control unit, leave the other one on that terminal on.

I've got a couple of small shaft yamaha top bearing carriers, I'll send you one if it will help....

I need the cap machined to fit the OMC block and Yami stator.

The small shaft one is the one he wants. Check with Jon Wright on the machine work.

I have seen two different pictures of yamaha /omc ignition conversions where the control box have been eliminated. In each picture terminal two and four have wires going somewhere.(blackhole) In the sloc repair manual two looks like it could be a ground. Does anyone know how to wire or what terminal two (black wire) and terminal four(yellow) does on the bottom left hand side of the Cdi unit? Thanks for the help Mike
