Just had heads cc'd and cut to 32cc. Am putting back together this weekend. Do the head gaskets go on dry? They are one piece heads,1988 2.4. Thanks Mike

I torque them 35 ft pounds dry with light weight oil on threads,Never had a problem
Make sure that the bolts wont bottom ,on my 2.4 I had to add washers to the bolts

personally I dont like the 90degree turn

Just my 2 c

I'm with T-Rex but I torque at a total of 38 FT lbs , I don't choose to do the the 90 degree thing. After a bolt has been stretched and is now used the 90 degree thing is out the window...IMO........ I've been torquing head bolts most EVERDAY of the world for 13 years and I've lost VERY few threads. And had had zero head gasket failures...

BUT to each his own,

BTW I just bought a kwel new kit to repair head bolt threads and am dieing to use it but the method I've ALWAYS torqued head bolts here for eons I haven't had the chance to use it ...

Them + 90 bolts must be soffter than the old bolts or the lack of washer throws the touqk reading off. When re-using the + 90 bolts I just go +45 degrees and sleep at nite. I have allways used a cheep non click wrench and watch the twist to # as to not pull the threads. Most important is to make both surfaces .0000 FLAT with lapping.:)
