does anyone know if its legal to tow two trailers with one truck. ...i guess by just welding a hitch behing boat #1.... and away u go? has anyone done this or had experience? ....other than being really freakin long and hard to manuever i dont see why not......
why do this?-it would make getting to the races much easier and cheaper too...and bigrigs do it all the time

there are a few guys who do this on here, but as to whether it is legal or not I guess would depend on state laws- there may be maximum lengths and classes of vehicles that may make a difference. It is way cool to see one of them pulling up tho.

Chances are a cop will not know if it is legal or not either since it is a rarity, and since it is physically possible, why not do it until someone says something. Claim ignorance and chances are the cop will just want to know about your boats anyway and let you off with a warning.

its legal in florida if the combined length of the trailers is less than a certain length (cant remember) i think most of out sub 22' boats are ok. check out AAAs website for the rules by each state, or I think they are posted on here if you do a search.

It is legal in some states for anyone to do so. But some states require you to have a commerical license to tow a trailer combo. So you have to check carefully and I know for a fact, just because it's legal in your home state the no-no states will not care and will write you up. So you need to check.

i like the plan where i play dumb if i get stopped! done it plenty of times! and my combined length will def be less than 30 or so feet, since the boats r only 13ft inflatables. anybody got a pic of a 2 boat rig in motion?

This is what will happen even if the cop don't know. You dump one boat and continue on your way. They aren't going to scratch their heads and let you go.
At least not NY state troopers. They don't care what other states say and will tell you what they want you to do. Don't do it and you sit on the side of the road. A contractor was pulling a normal trailer and had only one plate legally where it was spoda be for his state. A trooper told him it should be on the other end and just stood there waiting for him to get the hint. Which he did.

I remember this being a problem for someone a long time ago and I think their best answer was to put one boat in an RV and tow the other.

good link, so if it is legal in my state to tow two rigs and im driving through another state that does not allow it can i be fined? ....now in FL vehicles only need 1 license plate on the rear bumper and it it perfectly legal to drive a Fl car in ohio where their cars require 2 plates(front and back).

I know for sure it is illegal to do so in Illinois. you better check state laws before you start driving through them.

It is against the law in Mich. to "double" tow. It is 65' max. length in Mich. for non-commercial drivers. I thought that this length was a federal law, my bad.

It is illegal in Va. unless you have a set of wheels between the two trailers, total length is not over 65' & you have a cdl drivers license, that's how the tractor & trailers get by towing double. It is legal in Tn. & Ar. as we have boats delivered from both states & they can't believe it's illegal in Va. I have towed this way also with two 20' Allisons, one hooked up straight to the other, they tow great, no swaying. Just don't speed or cause an accident and chances are you will have no problems.

I can tell you the law in Louisiana. My father in law has a motorhome and he tows a short wheel base dodge four wheel drive and a 18' boat behind the motor home and it is just in the law. In Louisiana the maxium length is 60'. That is from the very front of the towing truck and to the last boat motor. If you can get a few inches by dropping your boat motor down it is legal. If you have it on a transom saver and you are a couple of inches drop the motor and reset the transom saver to fit. It differs from state to state, but this is the law in Louisiana, so check your state.
