Can anyone tell me the year of this 135 HP Black Max, V-6 and the approximate value of the engine (fair to good shape) S/S prop, good skeg? The serial number is difficult to read but looks like 20D166143. The engine has a one peice cowling (extremely heavy), 2 side locks and one front lock. The Cowling looks like the old clamshell type, but is one peice. Capnzee

This is what model number it is and your correct serial number

<TABLE border=0><TBODY><TR><TD>MERCURY (2.0L)</TD></TR><TR><TD>Serial Number: 0D166143 Model Number: 1135412MD</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Some one with access to Mercury can tell you more.

Thank you for the quick response Big Al--Now that I have the serial number (OD166143) correct, maybe I can get the answers to my question as to year and approximate value. capnzee

Thanks again Big Al, maybe there is someone out there that can confirm your findings. The seller insisted it was a 1999 or 2000. Capnzee

OD166 is a late 1991 model year or early 1992... My hydrostreams motor is a 0D 165XXX and it was built in July of 1991........ as a late model 1991..

You Have Definitely "nailed It"! Thank you so much, I would have bought or thought I bought a 2000 Merc 135and would have been really pissed when I found it was a 1992--now for the value, I figure it might be worth around 1000 bucks. Capnzee

Price could very greatly.
Condition, fresh water.

Book value would kill it.

But it's a 1992 2.0L 135hp outboard.
Nothing special.
But that engine for a carb engine runs good and is gas savy.

only if it were totally shot.... the spare 1989 150 2.0L i had just sold for 3500... and it was in good shape, but needed graphics and some paint TLC... and Ive seen motors of that era and block series go for as much as 4000 or as little as 650...

also FYI if your still shopping that style cover went untill 1995 and changed to the more modern style in 1996 starting with the 2.5L 150 DFI DIGITAL engine(first year optimax) in 1994 that cowl got pinstripe graphics versus the bold line graphics.. 1989/90 the bottom stripe is a blue grey 1991-1992 its actually a light grey and the phantom black base color seems to be a bit more vibrant with more depth after 1992 as well, could be due to formula change or clear coat not sure.. just the little styling ques I noticed from year to year... also on the 1996 and up..... 996 the graphic was all red, 97 -98 red and blue, 99 red and white or blue and white, 2000 is when they went to the graphic like Ron V has on his 150.. and then in aug 2005 it went to its current design.

Just for future reference for other motors ya might look at. Look on tha block at tha bottom of #2 cly. where tha case halfs bolt together, right behind tha advance timing arm. It will have a "build date" stamped in tha block............TW
