While I have everything in pieces this winter I am considering switching to an OS mid. What are the advantages to an OS mid over an HP Bass mid. My main concerns are weight differences and I have heard that an OS mid may be slower out of the hole(myth or fact). Motor is 245 carb. Would keep mid at 20"...Scott

OS are loud!!!!!!!!! and wiegh a bit more
if your mid is drilled above the cavataion plate your only gaining NOISE

Also, with an os mid, you'll probably be limiter to just over the hub props. With majority of the exhaust going out the mid, you won't be able to spool up props like trophy and such getting out the hole, they'll just bog.

I have a "dry stacked" exhaust with rings welded to the SS mid. Performs exceptionally well as well as being noisier.....;)

I have been thinking of switching to an offshort mid as I breach the 120's for the sake of strength. If your rattling the back end that bad, they do have a weakness below the lower motor mount and have tossed the whole lower over time.....

FastPhil tossed an SS lower at last years "We Own the Lake" run and it cost him a new mid, lower unit and prop.......

I changed over a motor a few years ago because the offshore housing is stronger (it is heavier). Also, if your running a drilled bass mid now your stuck with that noise level un-like most offshores where you can bolt in a quiet plate with any hole pattern drilled you want to regulate sound. I also perfer the look of an offshore as there a lot more rare in my area.
