Has anybody had trouble with the pins coming out like they do on Mercs? I personally have had good luck with them but am geting ready to splurge on a complete new set & have Swain Tech put thier PC-9 on the skirts & Gold Coat on the domes after we get done porting & ballancing them. I want to be able to run this set of pistons a long time & will have them top-pined if everybody thinks it's needed.
This motor is expected to turn 93-9500 & will be aided by a big shot of N20 when needed.

OMC invented locater pin failure!, I would pin 'em to go fishin', let alone what your planning on doing! There are plenty of folks on the forum who can do it, but I have a guy that does A nice job if interested.

Thanks Jeff. I guess I've been lucky... five of the ones in my motor now have over 550 hrs. on 'em.

All pistons can loose pins. Wisco moved them on the loopers so they don't pass through a port, but the can still come loose.
This is not always the pistons fault. Many time it caused by somebody doing their porting and not getting the ports shape balanced. This causes the ring to get pushed one way or the other, causing it to constantaly hammer against the pin, over time it starts coming loose.
US1 sells a $300 insurance policy against that. Might want to give him a call.

Pin Um. or Puke Um.
Three people I know say they don't have much problem with pins coming out. D.B.,W.T.and A.S. But I do. It's not a perfect fix.
Things I've learned...
Take a stone to the ring gap ends, all the edges. A file to where the pressed pin buldges out on the side of the piston. And make sure to clean and check the ring groove for what I think was a barrier film.
I have a perfect example of why to pin at work I'll try to post monday P.M..
You talked me into Waynes EFI so I'll return the favor.

The new pin design seems to be working much better, but for what your doing i would go on the safe side and top pin.
