Hey,
1/ Is it realy necessary to remove the oil pump or only when racing?
2/ If yes, how do i remove this? I've attached a picture. I think i have to loosen those(4) screws. And what do i have to do than except removing oil line and oiltank? Is there a hole when i remove the pump? How can close this of?
Thx in advance!!

 no problem, uninstall it from the mounting bracket, remove the 3\8's hose from the pulse limiter,go to the hardware n get a brass plug to thread into the case (where the pulse limiter was),go get a holley red n 30ft. of 3\8's (gas line),hook it to the pump (by n lower than the gas tank)(or at least on the deck)hook up a feul pressure guage(by the dash)n run the line to the inlet filter on the motor, uninstall the electric cylinoid (also in the mounting bracket for the vro).i like the idea of the pressure guage cause it will let you know if the pump is malfuncioning, inline filter before the pump,n the filter in the moter will be sufficient for the rest, done deal.
the holley red is important (cause it regulates itself at 7 pds.at idle n maintatains flow at w.o.t.)

Just disconnect the oil line at the outside of the engine and cover the fitting. Then unplug the 3 or 4 wire connector on the fuel/oil puimp electronics. Ther will also be a 2 wire connection coming from the oil tank in the bilge. Disconnect it also. These fuel fuel/oil pumps will pump fuel alone just fine. Make sure that you don't have any fuel leaks anywhere on the pump. Or you can go the expensive way and put on a replacement fuel pump that installs in place of the fuel/oil pump.

Whenever I've disconnected the oil from a VRO and run premix it always seems to shorten the life of the pump (they only seem to last for a couple of years).

I'm realy considering about leaving the vro on it. She makes 5900rpm at wot. I always add a bit oil in my gas tank so that it has a bit more oil.

This is correct, the VROs a crap. Two ways to go, Disconnect the oil into thw pump line from the tank and the electric connectors. I also remove the oil tank from the boat. The other route is to remove the VRO and replace it with the old style pump off the 88 Special motor. This latter way is the best way to go and is a hell of a lot cheaper than going the Holley route.

I would go for that last one. Which pump is it? Which year etc. My engine is a '88:confused: So i realy want to know which pump from which year i need. That would be the best solution i think.

I run a Mr. Gasket fuel pump, $40., very small, easy to install & plumb. Do locate it high enough to keep it dry. Install a terminal block next to it, for your wiring connections. I wired mine directly to the key switch. Also, install a small inline filter after the pump, the type merc uses before the carbs. I turn my V4 6200, no fuel related problems, except it eats fuel fast at that RPM.... Ahhh, but it's worth it!

Thx for your input but i'll buy a std omc pump without the vro. And no electrical. Because I think that they are less reliable:cool: .

electric pumps are reliable, every NASCAR & IMSA race car uses them. And they have to finish, to collect the points!! Lets us know how you make out.

Can't u just remove the oil inlet hose and plug it? If you leave the elctrical connections, does the alarm sound at the control box?
