I'm wanting to deck down heads to run 155 psi. Machine shop guys reckon easiest was is to deck down head, then get gasket made and machine block down to give correct squish.. Anyone done this? Or is it cheaper over there to get heads cnc'd?

I believe new group of machine shop guys is needed. Since the head doesn't have negative squish so to speak, how is cutting the head and then decking the block going to "give correct squish"?

Although I've never fooled with 3 liter stuff, I don't see how anybody could advise that decking the block, which requires complete removal and disassembly of the powerhead, would be "easier" than just doing head work when raising compression is the goal. Seems obvious that head work would be the most cost efficient method. Just cut em and re-ring em. (there are several people on the board here that can do it)

Eric, any 60cc head inserts yet? Still around X-Mas, if it is questionable I am still willing to give the 58s a try. Please let me know when you know anything.
Thanks, Dean

Thanks guys, the engine is dismantled and the sleeves are coming out so I can reallt get into the motor and clean up and make the ports really nice. Pistons will all be done, rods lightened and balanced etc. With the block being decked to get correct squish..... At moment it is .045 so if head gaskets are put it the block will need to be decked down to take up the thickness of the gasket. Will run it around .035 to be safe. Exhaust pyro's will be fitted for correct air/fuel mixture.
Maybe it will be easier to send the heads up to you guys to get you to do...

ERIC, how much for a set of heads?

Head gaskets for a 3.0L? Why would anyone want to go to this instead of the o'rings? The o'rings are good for 230 psi + compression. There are several guys including Simon that can cut, change the squish & regroove them for o'rings.

Last I Talked To Him Simon Did Not Cut Heads. Takes Too Long To Re-groove Them. Wayne Does Although He Does Not Re-groove The Outside Ring, Just Uses Silicone. I Would Go(and Did) With The Simon Heads. Theyre Awesome Looking, Run Great And Have Interchangeable Combustion Chambers So You Can Change Compression At Will. I Think He Said He Even Had Some New Chambers.

not trying to steel a post, bit thought i would pass this bit of info along in case someone has not fingered it out yet, if you want to replace the "O" rings on a 3.0l and do not want to spend the 80.00 bucks from merc for a new set i went to a hydro hose supplyer and ordered some that were a 1.50 each. i could not find any difference in the rings. they appear to be regular "O" rings not like the 2.5 280 rings that have a taper

just my 2 cents worth

Since we are talking about his:

I don't suppose you have a part number for the "o" rings?
For a set of cut heads without the outside groove, wouldn't an anaerobic flange sealer be better than silicone?

I'm thinking I need to take my heads off and see what I have.

Has anyone here really hotted up a 3L? I'm interested to see how much HP you can get?

Wayne Taylor (madefi.com) has lots of efi stuff for them. Eric Simon has heads and builds a 335 hp version of the 3.0l.

wayne taylor sells some really cool o-rings cheap. i dont remember what they were made of but he said that they were pretty much in-destructible. on the hotted up thing, has anybody put juice to a 3 litre??
