My neighbor with the 235. Well he thinks my 185 power head will fit his lower. He says he can swap the bubble from the 1985-235 to my 1984-185. He's not looking to get more out of 185, but might. I guess it's the fitment of the two different exaust plates, or something like that. I'm not sure, thats why I'm posting. But it would seem that it would work. I would hate to sell him mine and it not work, him getting PO''ed at me for his stupidity. He has the 20" and mine being a 25" shaft. My motor runs strong and his, well needs to be gone through. His has the beat up heads and scoring in the cylinder walls. Thanks for the help. Could be my way of getting rid of a flat back as well, and get a looper.

he would also need your adapter plate out of the mid

Yea what he wants to do is take my power head off. Transfer the bubble and carbs onto my 185, and put it on his 20" lower. Mine is a 25" shaft. He wants to keep his lower and just swap the power head. The question is will it work, the power head swap? A flat back to a bubble conversion. Back onto the 235 lower. Might gaid some HP's and might not. He's just looking for an easy way to get back on the water, insted of dumping money into an engine rebuild.

I guess you could adapt the bubble over, but not with out a bunch of work. I don't think it would be worth it. He can take your adaptor plate, as Riverrat said, and put it on his mid.... Then it would work for sure. That would be his best bet, IMO.

The bubble won't transfer without serious modifications. It's just not worth it.

If you transfer the exhaust fillers to the 185, they will have to have holes drilled in the block to bolt them in. Once this is all done, the back exhaust deck must be machined flat to match the inner exhaust cover. Difficult to machine this without getting machining chips in the block. Easier if the whole block is torn down and can be cleaned after the maching. It would be easier to swap the 185 exhaust adapter to the 235 mid.
