Does anyone now what fuel pump you can use to replace the fuel pump in the VST tank on a 300PM, retail from Merc is nearly $1200NZ surely there must be a bosch or similar subsitute???

I have run into the same problem weak pump in in VST. I have looked around a bit with no results. What I may do is try to mount a bosh 56psi pump from a drag 260 just after the VST. I would loose the final filter that is built in but thought I would use one I used with the 260s NAPA gold 6030 I believe. Not as neat but alot cheaper. I see no reason why that pump or even the 39psi Bosche pump a bit smaller and less voltage, wouldn't work fine. Oil and fuel are supplied to the VST via separate pumps for the most part. A total investment of about $156 works for me if I can't find a good used one or an aftermarket identical one. When I looked this summer the cost for the merc one I remember to be around $600 maybe I misread, but if I did all the more reason to use something different. The only difficulty I see is that you would have to run a pick-up tube down into the tank at the same level as the old pump picked up at. Some alteration to the lid of the VST would be needed. Dean

P.S. Sorry I read post to quickly I see we are not talking U.S. currency, but still rediculious at $600 U.S.

I agree totally, ($600US by the time it gets to NZ with tax etc is around $1200NZ) I was thinking of using a pump along these lines it's a Bosch 0 580 254 910 pump these are it's specs

Flow Rate: 130 Litres Per Hour
Pressure: 5 Bar (72 PSI) (unrestricted obviously would bring it back down to 39psi)

Have you pulled your pump out of the VST Tank I haven't had a chance yet, I wonder if this is close to it in dimensions.
