The Nikon D40 was officially announced. The D50 is a much better choice, although it will likely be discontinued in favor of this model:

$657? No way. People were buying D50 kits at Staples for $500 - and the D50 is a much better camera.

I really have to wonder what Nikon's logic is with the D40. It's no easier to use than the D50, yet it's missing so many of the D50's features --- and at a higher price. The only thing the D40 has over the D50 is a slightly better viewfinder. Paired with a good lens, the D50 will produce professional results without even breaking a sweat.

I would still like to find this deal. :D :p :p You can't even come close to that on Ebay for a D50 kit. :D

Those slim models are alright, but they use a refractor lens that isn't quite as good. They do take great photos, but you should consider this one instead:http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=2&productNr=25555

Jeff, if I find any D50 deals that are awesome, I'll let you know.
