Does a new Optimax motor require a special battery? I have heard as long as it is 1000 cranking amps it is fine.

...I have a 150 Opti and battery is rated 1000 amps cranking at +32 degrees F. temperature. Even this starts a bit slow at lower air temps. If you run anything smaller you will have both starting and running problems with an Opti.

I agree 100%, you need plenty of power to prevent expensive problems.

Starters for one are expensive...
