I just bought my first Bullet 20xd w/ 250xb, it has a sportmaster w/ existing problems, was wondering if I put a stock 3.oL L/U on it what will happen? I live on a winding lake and was tring to save money instead of fixing the other l/u. I am afraid of a possible blowout w/ stock l/u. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, J

The problems will out weigh the benifts of haveing the sporty fixed!!

Guess before I say that what is wrong with the sporty???

You will have to run it to low to get any speed and when ya do close off some of the water inlets to raise the motor you will blow out at speed.. Not sure what speed a stock unworked lower is good for..

That combo should run low to mid 90's with a sportmaster and 12 to 14" setback..

That 250XB is a strong motor capable of pushing a 20ft Bullet over 80 MPH.

You are correct, a stock unit could blow out. It could also be cheaper to repair the sportmaster rather than get a new stock unit. You could also find a used stock unit for a good price and put a cone on it. Or, get the stock unit and put a four blade prop with lots of bite on it and hope it does not blow out.

Thanks for the input. I have a couple of stock units and thought I could get by. This damaged lower unit needs a prop shaft and the skeg is bent. I will find the parts and set it up the way it was. Thanks again, J

Here's an option if you need the cone and lwp to prevent blowout. I need a stocker for the speed I am running (65ish). You pay the shipping only, if your stock case is nice.
