I cut the heads on my trusty ol' black 2.0 175HP Merc last spring and brought the compression up to 138 or so. It ran great all summer. Its a fishing motor on a Ranger Bass boat. When I was winterizing it this fall I pulled the plugs and they looked clean, but I notice the paint around the spark plug holes looks like it may have been hot. It looks a little different shade of black. Not burnt, but like it may have been hotter than the rest of the head. I did repaint the heads with High Temp engine paint and replaced the temp warning thing. I did not rejet, as it always seemed rich to me, would foul plugs often, and even seemed to 4 stroke at low speeds. What do you think?

They were sent plenty rich for 150 psi of compression. You can look at the jets it should have 76's in it. The area around the plugs is always hotter than the rest of the head.
