HI there. I am a newbie on the hydraulic steering front. Currently I have teleflex dual cable steering on my 225 Yamaha with a tilt helm.
With this system, would I need a new tilt helm in addition to the front mount unit?--I am assuming this is so, but would like to confirm.
How much hose--same length as my steering cables?
Where is a good place to purchase all of the above?
How difficult is the install for a fairly handy first-timer?
As always, thanks much for the technical expertise of the membership.

your hoses need to be two feet longer than your cables. It takes about 1 and a half hours to completely install the kits, a little less after doing a dozen or so:)
good luck , john

First off complete your profile, everyone is very friendly and there's a wealth in information on this awesome site, guys are more receptive if you they know more bout you.................As far as the steering upgrade, you made a great choise, the SEASTAR PRO is the most heavyduty unit that line offers, and is a great $$$ value compared to other systems out there. SEASTAR offers tilt helms as well so if a tilt helm is what your application calls for that wouldn't be a problem. The new installation should be a breeze, it's very straight forward and SEASTRAR offers premade hoses if you are not confident enough to buy bulk hose and reusable fittings and make up the hoses to custom fit the boat yourself. The key to a successful instalation, is to properly bleed the system, traveling at high speeds in your performance boat is no joke and sloppy or unresponsive steering is not an option. Good Luck & Enjoy your new system it's going to be quite an improvement both in performance and safety. If you have any questions don't hessitate to ask.
Peace! FIG

I would not attempt the do it yourself hoses and teleflex does not recomend it either for the pro system. they do sell the hose but has a disclaimer with it and suggests using only for inboard applications(baystar stuff) I keep the hoses in all lengths in the standard (1000psi) and in the kevlar (1500psi, pro stuff), at least I try to keep them, they go fast. Fig is correct in the bleeding process being the biggie. the kits come with full instructions and all the hardware/bleed hoses for a complete install, even has the correct oil. good luck, john

Added info to my profile...thanks Fig.
Would love to see your Centurion! Just sold mine this summer...a mint '88 with a '97 225 Yamaha. The boat in question for hydraulic is a '91 Ski Centurion Falcon Barefoot with a '98 225 3.1 Liter Yamaha...mint as well.
