What do you all know about the Scorpian or its copies the Obsession 20', the Advantage Banshee and the Liberater 20'?

Are all these hulls the same boat? How fast are they with say a 280 on them. How do they handle and what do they weigh? Thanks.

The Rapid Craft Riot is also a similar bottom, with a taller deck.

They were designed to have jet power and will not work as well as STV - Mirage - etc. with outboard power.

There are a few people that drag race them, and they might argue otherwise.

There are several recent posts on the Scorpion.

I have heard that the bottom on the Riot is not the same as the Scorpian.

What about the other boats listed. The Obsession, Banshee and Liberator.

My guess is the Banshee is a direct copy of the Cali Scorpian, and the obsession is the wisconson bottom. What is the liberator a copy of?

I have a 20' Obsession, mine is based off of a Daytona. There is guy in Michigan Hot Boats who has a 20' Obsession/Scorpion and he like it. These boats chew rough water up and are built really strong. There a heavier hull then a STV or Mirage. With a 2.5 you should run in the 80's or 90's no match for a STV or Mirage. Depends what you want a rocket or a fast preformance boat.

That's why I used the word "similar."

Never said it could not be done but the simple fact is - put the same power on a stock Scorpian and a Stock River Rocket and the Scorpian will be sucking hind tit.

It is the nature of racers, given some time, to make anything work.

There are lots of guys racing OMC when it is cheaper and much easier to race a Merc. Just the nature of things.

Ah yes the Banshee. I worked for them for a little while after I sold them my molds. The Banshee set a world record speed with a small block chevy, hooked up to an Alpha drive. People use to run the snot out of them at the Parker Enduro. Some use that style for drag boats, top fuel and blown alky. It's a small boat and will take on water when you stop fast. But it is a darn good looking boat. It's good on quite waters, get them in the waves and you could say HELP! if you want to go fast that is a good boat. When I was at Advantage I think the mols were in storage some where. But I think they were at the Havasu shop, they had 2 places at that time. It's a good looking little boat. I like the 22' that they have, but then you will need some power to get it to Haul.

Yes, the Riot is the same bottom as later model Scorpions that were built in Eliminator's Shawano, WI plant. Any of the earlier Scorpions built in Shawano and all of the boats built in California have bottoms that are different from the Riot.

The first thing you'll notice is that the Riot has a notched transom to eliminate the need for the big, heavy jack plate that the Eliminators use. However, there were other changes made to help the boat turn. My Dad raced a Scorpion in ModVP and when it wouldn't turn, he made the changes while working at Eliminator to make it turn. So, a Scorpion/Banshee will tend to slide and then hook if you try to really turn them hard where a Riot will turn on a dime.

They're all too heavy to be considered a true high performance boat - they won't compete with a Riot, STV, Mirage, or Allison, but they are all very well built and beautiful boats.

If it's a Scorpion and has a notched transom, it's the same bottom as the Riot. That's the easiest way to tell.
