i have a set of 644-818141 rods. i want to install them in a motor i am putting together. these rods have two drilled holes in the wrist pin area i guess for better oiling. i have never used one of these rods. my motors use the same # without the holes. can anyone tell me if these will cause a problem with a high rpm engine. also why were they made this way. they are high per. rods. they have the big bolts and i believe they came out of a high perf engine. just never used ones with these holes. please let me know if any of you used them or had any problems. i want to have them checked out but do not want to pay if they are going to be a problem

Ben,
There are several types of 41 series rods. The ones with the holes drilled in the wrist pin boss is located and has a 3/8 " headed SPSultra high strength rod bolt is from a High Performance EFI 260,280 and early drag motor. The one you may see that is the same numbered series that has NO HOLE in the top and has the lighter duty 5/16" bolt are from a Pro Max and the late model 2.5's like 200 HP engines. They are fine to run in a high rpmed high HP and high compression engine as many people run them with no issues we run them in motors with a great success rate. With these rods I would and do relieve the rod cap area at the bolt hole and utilize the stronger SPS 3/8" headed bolt if I were planning on stressing the engine above the stock application. Also there are a few 41 series rods that is as the also lighter duty rod that has a
"saw blade" type slit in the wrist pin end to allow oil to reach the needle bearings. In my opinion these are a rod that should be used in normal duty lower RPM and powered engines...

Good luck,

Ben,
As Jay stated, the rods with the holes are race rods.

If those are the rods I sold you, they are out of a 99 drag motor.

RBT i guess you were the one who sold them to me. nothing wrong here. good condition and happy with the sale. i just put a motor together last year with marty and joe at diamond. those new rods did not have the oil holes. i blew it up for jasper. i now am going to put back together old drag and use your rods. i just wanted to make sure that if you run one up near 11,000 there isn't a problem with that style rod. i knew you told me they came out of a drag. just checking it out. i don't want another in pieceeeeeessssssss.

If you want to put my monogram on them thats fine man......:D .
Call me sometime. We did a very trick set of 5250 rods that are different from all the other cuts out there. I can send you some pix. Knowing you, you'll find a way to do it better than I did though. Wouldn't be too tough. Also I have a few other trick parts to tell you about.
