G'day Gentlemen,

I would like a recommendation on the Powertech prop manufactured in the States.

I have been offered this particualr brand of prop (Model TR-04, 4 blade 25') by the Sydney Australia importer.

The importes has recommended the TR-04 prop to be suitable for my application other than the 25' Laser 2 that is tried and tested with good results.

Boat is a Allison 1900SS (Australian Model) Ski boat Fresh 200hp Merc with mild mods & elevation.

Look forward to reading some feedback from you guys.

Well let me answer in a positive form, I find them to be more hype than result.

And every prop has a need and will fit someones needs.

In the land of speed? JUNK!
(personal opinion) And I am know to have a personal opinion:eek:

Now for regular boating and hole shot maybe the best thing going.

And personally you might have found something that works very very well.

So I can not be quick to judge!

What is it about this prop you like? What does it do well?

Al,

The distributor claims the following;
More strength & better hub system
Good hole shot & easy planning
Good acceleration
Good at low speed
Stable & controlable at high speed. sounds perfect doesnt it.

And one more thing...the 25' run a speed of 102mph.

Claims the Laser 2 in the same pitch will be unstable at high speed on my boat, with sloppy handling overall.

Hyrda,

you should look into a Merc wheel, the Tempest is a faster wheel typically on the top end, more so than the LaserII in stock form. The Laser II CAN be built for your specs, and made to perform VERY well.

You are right on the Advertisement,,, everything one would want to have from a prop, good sales pitch...

Do a search on Trophy props here in General discussion I believe. There was an interesting thead on the Trophy being one of the fastest all around wheels as commented on by several members here.

Good luck , Russ

I have one of thier 26'' 3 blade cleavers & if they still made them I'd have a 22, 24 & a 28'' also. It makes the high dollar Merk cleavers look pretty silly.

Well seeing how the LASER II is a outdated junk prop also, not hard to do better than that prop with it's small dia.

But I have to disagree with you on some of that Al. Definitely agree that the laser II is "JUNK" except for light fishing boat applications. Ain't nobody gunna see 102 with a thru hub prop of any brand IMHO.

This one serves me purty well in all around use...............................

As far as a Laser II being junk, I disagree. It's all about what application it's being used for. Out of the box it will not perform side by side to a Tempest on a like hull .. but as I mentioned above, one that has been built for a specific light rig can be quite a bit faster than you'd think.

The TRO4 is a great prop. It is basically a copy of the Trophy but has more cup so can be run higher than the Trophy. I just switched from a 25" Tempest to a 25" TRO4. It is just as fast but does everything else better, way better. The TRO4 has much better hole shot, less ventilation in turns, less steering torque. IMO the Tempest is only good for going straight at WOT. As for the Lazer...well it's not even as good as a Tempest.

That's purty much what I meant Russ. Boat has to be light for a laser to run half azz decent. I never had the opportunity to run any of mine on a light enough hull but everything I ran them on the results were all basically the same....."JUNK"
For the money they cost + to work them to be decent there are a bunch of other thru hubs that are better right out the box. Of course tweekin em is the only way to get everything out of em, no matter the brand.
Laser ain't gunna push any 25' hull anywhere around 100mph. Can't run it high enough. Will lose a blade before you get there.

Humm That could work.
Look like a Yamy!

Like those 150 hp decals:rolleyes:

Mine says 200 and is a 200, guy come up to me at the landing, that ain't no 200!
Thats more than any 200 I have seen.

Best one yet was the guy who ask, is that that new ""voodo"" Mercury 4 stroke? (never seen Alien cover) I told him yea. He was happy to see it could go!

The over the hubs may be a great deal, and must be if your gettting good performance.
I know their threw hubs are junk!

Hey Mod, we on the same page... On the right hull and built right (yep $$ ), they can be made to run,, I know.:)
On my Allisons, I only run over hub wheels now. I have a 25 Trophy that I used to use on the XB03 for fishing, but have since gone back to 3 blade only. I have a couple of Hackney ET cuts that fill the bill quite nicely for fishng with up to 4 people in da fishin' bote. I do have a 21" Trophy for skiing and playin. It's a fun wheel, limited. Use a Yamaha built by Tillman on the XB-03 when I raced it last year. Amazing.
