What is the best gps plotter that can be dash mounted for the money? I have looked at all the different things on the web, but would like to hear some real world experiences. I am limited to about 6" X 8" in size.
Thanks,

any Garmin if the thing craps out, send it with $59 and if they cann't fix it they send you a new one. My better half just sent mine out and I had it back in less than 10 days

Ray Marine has some good ones also. The A-65 is a great little unit that it reasonable in price. It has the Gps -plot charting capabilities and fish-bottom finding capabilities as well. The C- series are a little nicer but still reasonable in price. They have all the features that the A-65 has plus radar capabilities.I have the C-80 with the 2kw radome and it's a great package. It's on my Wellcraft and we use it fish and dive in the gulf. But the A-65 is more in the size you are looking for. All screens are color.Hydro

Wish I knew that, I bought a used GPS III on eBay for $65 when mine got wet a couple months ago. Guess it's no different though.

If you still have it then send it...I'm so glad to have mine it crapped out at Sagandaga and she just sent it out a few weeks ago, so I spent the summer with the new boat and NO GPS , probablly a good thing stopped me from pushing and gave me a chance to learn to drive it...

Jeff I have an older version of this one:

http://www.standardhorizon.com/ProductImages/CP155C_thumb.jpg

http://www.standardhorizon.com/indexVS.cfm?cmd=DisplayProducts&ProdCatID=84&encProdID=hUbrfycdb9I%3D&DivisionID=3&isArchived=0

Assuming you want one with clear "plotter" section

I really like this unit, the amount of info available is awesome with a database for just about every port with locations and phone numbers for gas docks, hospitals, port offices, etc. Currently I just have just one chip in mine, but it shows from Olympia to Nanimo with amazing detail.

Hope this helps, Scott

I can get those units(assuming it is a CP155C) for $350 if anyone is interested.

Just installed that same one on my sisters boat. Didnt have time to play around with it, but one thing is or sure, I didnt like the 1" plug that had to pass through the stern of the boat (large integrated swim platform on a 23 Searay). A 1" hole and they did not give us any grommets. Made a mess with the 3M trying to make it reliable.

Al,

Did you find the same problem, or did we route it wrong? They should have a split cable or junction to avoid drilling such a large hole.

The Lowrance units are great and will be dropping in price the next few months.
The LCX 111 dropped from 2499.99 to 1299.99. Probably the best deal going fora big screen GPS plotter, fishfinder and radar combo.

I just ran mine up the transom to the control boot for control cables for outboard.
But if I had a stern drive and have to drill that big hole that would upset me!
