The pumps I believe were only put on 1990-1991 models and then from then on Merc just began to block them off with a plug at the factory and not use them. They help with acceleration from idle but I believe Merc removed them because they had so many small parts and in general make it a pain in the butt to remove and work on the carbs...(that is conjecture on my part). I have a 1991 Mariner Mag II and have had two techs try to take them off mine but I wouldn't let them...I now work on this motor myself and I will keep them until I have a problem with them, and cannot find parts for them....Merc doesn't make parts for the accelerator pumps anymore.

I hope that helps

They were also used on XR4.

The bowls casted for pumps were used on xr6's and very few 200's but were NOT machined for use.

I have found, while the accelerator equipped carbs worked fine, the later carbs without the pumps worked just as well. The last generation of V-6 carbs are all excellent....I think the fact that the butterflies fit so snugly is a major improvement over the older dual-float carbs. Just when everything gets about as good as it can get.....we move on to EFI and start the program over. EFI gets better and better...then it's on to DFI. DFI is now really good.....so what's next?
