I read a thread on here awhile ago about drilling 1/2 holes near the top of a tuner to help idling on a 260 when the end of a tuner is underwater when the engine is trimmed all the way in. Does it help? Does an engine suck water into the exhaust chest at idle?

It's not that it sucks water in, but rather has to overcome the pressure of pushing it out of the tuner.................. in other words water obstructs the clear path.

Can anyone report an improvement in starting and idle quality after drilling above water relief holes in the tuner? One of my motors is notorious for being hard to start in the water. Not sure why it is harder to start that the other motor, as neither has relief holes. It starts fine on the hose out of the water though.

Just wanted to see if it helps before I spend $200 for base gaskets plus the time to pull both powerheads.

I had holes in the top of my promax midsection so I just got a long bit and drilled thru the tuner and it did help with idling.

I thought about doing what Chad did, however, I would be concerned that it would give water a straight shot to go up into the exhaust chest when stopping.

If I do it, I would probably pull the adapter and tuner to do it the way Jay Smith does when he performs the dry stacking operation. That way, the water will not have a straight shot.
