Hi, I have a problem on the left bank, cylinders 2-4-6 of a 1988 merc bass motor. it has spark fuel and 115 psi compression on all cylinders. the problem started suddenly, motored out with normal performance, sat 1/2 hr. restarted engine and had problem. two weeks prior I hit a log with the prop but the engine ran fine the subsequent two weekends. is it possible to have broken something to knock out only 3 cylinders and still have spark fuel and compression? thanks for any help, Skip

If your timing is correct on 2,4,6, then what would make you think they are dead. Two strokes are pretty simple machines. sufficient compression, correct air/fuel, and exact spark:timing and she runs. So what is different about 2,4,6 than 1,3,5,??

Swap your switch boxes and see if problem moves to other side.

Had a 2.5 EFI with the same issue and it was dead on the port side too it was stator or trigger . It wasn't the switch boxes as they were traded out for new ones by me a day eariler at the customers request....

Good luck,

Mine had an intermttiant miss, loss of power and fouled plugs on 1-3-5. Turned out to be a loose ground on one of the switchboxes.

is there any way to test the stator and trigger assemblies with a fluke meter or other test equipment? Skip

Thanks to everyone for the info. I haven't been able to check anything yet but will post results when I do. Again Thanks. Skip

Generally if it's 3 cyls it's a switchbox or stator, if it's two cyls it's a trigger, one cyl switchbox or coil. 3 cyls or 1 can be some type of wiring issue also. (assuming carb motor)

My drag on the yellow boat dropped 2 and it was the ECU.
