I hope that I am in the right forum for this but I need to know where I can get tunnel hull boat Insurance. I am about to buy a 2000 STV Euro and cannot find anyone who wants to insure it. Can anyone lead me in the right direction. Thanks....

Check with your agent that does your house and cars, I have all my stuff with State Farm, have my Mirage and my Allison covered. Good luck

There are several threads that discuss this. After almost giving up on insurance for my old, and therefore not expensive, Eliminator Daytona 21, I found it at Markel's 800 number. I was told to ask for "regular water", and got a decent quote and no refusal. I do have an old post that gives names and numbers for several sources.--Either search insurance or search for posts by "Li'l Toy."

I'm with Rick. Call the guy that does your auto and homeowners and if he hasn't got the right number, shop for all 3 policies. All insurance companies are shysters, but some agents get it. ;)

nor is my 19 liberator or the 21 daytona.(most of them) thats how i got mine insured with progressive. they said "we dont insure tunnel boats." i showed them that it has a center sponson and its actually a small catamaran instead of a true tunnel. the agent agreed and no more problems.....might be worth a try

State Farm insures my 21 Liberator. The description of the hull is "Modified V". I think the only other thing they were interested in was the horsepower. No discussion on speed was had.

Try Foremost. They specialize in custom made boats and other boats under 26'. You should be able to get a fair price to.

I know one thing, make sure they have all the facts and get it in writing. Insurance companies have a convenient way of forgetting things like top speed, or they downrate the top speed so the computer will let them write the policy and then it's all wrong. As soon as I get around to it, I'm writing a formal, registered letter to Boat U.S. demanding that they send me a letter - not a checklist - explaining that they fully understand what motor I have, the serial number and year of the motor, and how fast the boat goes. Along with this will be a demand that they honor my current premium as an apology for my putting my assets at risk. Found out a few weeks back I've been running the boat for two seasons with them thinking it still has a 90 hp Evinrude and runs 50 mph. After my vision returned, I told them as politely as possible that I had informed them of the motor swap almost two years ago. So they put me on hold and dug through the files, came back on and said "you're right, we have record of the call, it's just that nobody ever changed the file. We would have honored it if something went wrong." Now, you think an insurance company is going to honor that without a fight? All they have to do is throw that note out with the trash and I have no proof, because I put my faith in them. They had increased the premium and cashed my check, you'd think that's proof enough, right? Wrong! They increased the premium because of the increase in value which I requested because of the new motor. THAT PART THEY GOT RIGHT. Big surprise. So now they have told me that yes, we'll still insure it with 150 hp and for 70 mph, but the premium is $130 more and we'll only insure it for 300K liability instead of 500K. I have one house and one vehicle, and I don't think the lawyers are interested in my new Motorola cell phone or my La-Z-Boy recliner, so 300K is fine.

Oh, and my favorite trick by Boat U.S.....an outboard motor is "boating equipment", and is not listed by model year or as a separate value. How would you like a new 300 Verado lumped in with your moldy old lifejackets and fire extinguisher with regards to theft, and have nothing on record that you even owned the motor? I've never heard of a bad claim experience with Boat U.S., and I like the fact they fight for boaters' rights, but it gets a person thinking. Haven't had a chance to write and gripe about it, but I'll have something in writing along with an apology before the boat is fixed and hits the water in the spring.

Yeah Im in the same boat here lol funny how I said that, I am purchasing a 21ft Obsession with a mercury 300x and top speed of 96 the guy says anyways and I tryed progressive, geico, foremost the closest I got was foremost but then they said since the boat does over 75mph they won't insure it so if you guys call your boat does 65mph screw it you know there are three things I hate in this life banks, insurance and speeding laws

My Nordic Heat/502 MPI is covered by Foremost. They would not insure my 21 Superboat/300X. Funny thing about the Nordic policy is that I'm alright as long as I don't install "an automotive engine in it".
