Just saw that Gene Snow, one of the NHRA's top fifty all time drivers, was arrested today for molesting a teenage boy over a long period of time. Geez, the "Snowman?"

http://www.nhra.com/images/spacer.gifIn addition to being among the select group of drag racers whose careers have spanned five decades, Gene "the Snowman" Snow will remain in the history books as the first Funny Car driver to break the 200-mph barrier with a 200.88 clocking on Aug. 17, 1968, and the first Top Fuel driver to break the four-second barrier at an NHRA national event Oct. 6, 1988. http://www.nhra.com/images/spacer.gifRacing during an era in the mid-1960s when most competitors relied on production automotive-type automatic transmissions, Snow pioneered the use of a direct-drive arrangement for his Funny Car, a configuration that is still used today, thanks largely to the second generation of pioneering he did in the late 1980s

<!-- End sidebar displayed --><!-- Text Story Detail -->The engines are roaring at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, but the buzz is about drag-racing legend Gene Snow.
"He's sort of the grandfather of this sport," said spectator Charlie Owens.
Fellow fan Richard Sparks agrees. "Back in the '60s and '70s he was the best there was, as far as I was concerned."
The local hero was arrested earlier this month on charges of sexually assaulting a child. A young man who worked for Snow at his auto shop made the complaint. He's now 17 and claims Snow started molesting him when he was 11 years old.
Snow's attorney told us by phone today that Snow "denies this happened."
The Tarrant County Sheriff's Department says after our story aired and was posted on the internet on Monday, they heard from a man in Salem, Oregon who claims Snow assaulted him too. Investigators say because Snow traveled the country for many years drag racing, they're expecting other possible victims to come forward.
Snow no longer drives, but his team has car running in the top alcohol dragster event in Ennis this weekend. Racing fans say they hope the allegations against Snow aren't true.
"In this country, you're innocent until proven guilty," said one fan.
"Your hardcore fans will stick behind him, stick behind the sport," said another.
Tarrant County District Attorney's office accepted the case against Snow Thursday. It's now up to a grand jury whether to indict him.

Absolutely unfreakin believable. I would say that practically ANY guy wouldn't admit such goings on unless they thought they could get some serious bank out of it. But the fact that two have come forth??? I would think that if "Snowman" WAS in deed innocent he would be climbing too the top of The Empire State Building and yelling of his innocence about such a case as this.
Man what's next, is Don Garlits gonna come out of the closet or admit to wearing fishnet stockings while he raced the old slingshots???
RA
ps
Eddie Hill was the first man in the 4s was he not??? And he did it on the water BEFORE that did he not???

Gene Snow was the first 200 mph funny car, in his 68 full bodied Charger.
He did indeed race top fuel the last half of his career but primarily in IHRA
Eddie Hill was the FIRST 4 second car.
What it should have read was that Gene Snow was the first IHRA car to go 4 seconds. Not NHRA car.
wonder if the rest is true:(

Gene was the first car to register a 4 second run, Hill was the first to do it in NHRA, but was second to do it.
Gene did it first in the IHRA.
The first 4 secind run was at a IHRA event.
Just like the first 5 second and 200 mph run for Pro Stock was in the IHRA first!
first 200 mph door slamer was done at Darlington SC, first under 6 seconds was Ricky Smith
The 2 sanction bodys do not like each other.

Big Al,
Your wrong about this!!! Eddie Hill was indeed the first person to run in the fours. He ran a 4.990 on April 9 1988 at the Texas Motorplex during the IHRA Texas nationals. Snow ran the first NHRA 4 at Houston on Oct,6 1988. He ran a 4.997. later, Cory

Kinda like the old NASCAR versus USAC. If Bill France booted ya, there was still a place to run. Is USAC even still around???
