I'm going to buy one of there 28 footers to keep the Skater in this winter.. I want to make a bulk purchase or become a dealer for them to save me and who ever wants one a few bucks, if anybody's intrested let me know. I have seen these and they 're good quality for the $$...so far I have 2 others near me that want them.....On a side note when I enquired about becoming a dealer I asked about drop shipping and they said no problem....

Thanx
Jeff

Greg if I have to become a dealer I'll upgrade to supporting vender with ya!!

I guess I'm looking for intrest and waiting for the dealer pricing let me know what size or model you want and I'll get ya a price. I just don't want people to say they want one then back out so everyone else misses the deal...

Im interested too i need something for my 21 footer, i had actually looked over the summer for one.

It says they are in Watertown CT, which is fairly close to me also.

I need to know some prices and sizes available before i would commit.

The website just shows pictures and asks to get an inquiry. Doesnt give me any other info about the garages.

I'd be interested in getting the specs, sizes and pricing too. The web site doesn't have much info. I've been looking into them, SkelterKing, and Fred's Sheds, a local mfg here in the Saratoga, NY area.

How well do they handle snow load?

Keep me posted.....and thanks!

keep in mind you 21 has 2 feet of motor behind it and a trailer jack out front ....I would think a 24'er for a 21 would cover it well that the same thing with the Skater, it's a 24 but with the motors I figure the extra 4 feet will cover that and most of the trailer

I have the "Shelter King Mariner 14X24X10 Round Style Instant Garage with Front and Back Doors." So far so good. It is a perfect fit for the Allison. I am happy with it.

I'm not quite sure what the difference is between Shelterlogic and Shelter King.

Shelter logic is the company that makes them for alot of other companies under other names but if you look they all use the same pics for addvertizing here's a link http://www.campingworld.com/browse/categories/index.cfm?deptID=&catID=356&subOf=8 that shows alot of models and will give you an Idea of the prices I'm hoping to pass on great savings to S&F members...I guess this should be listed under group purchase instead of general boating I was hoping to get some intrest but Ididn't think this much....I may have to become a supporting Vender for these things on the site???????

Cutwater I asked the same question ( ignore if you live south of the mason dixon line) the guy there said it would shed snow and should be cleaned of large amounts SNow ( cann't believe you made me say it) I have the same issues

For you guys down south the anchor system is good to 100 mph winds!!!!

snow loads--------you better be ready to clean them off,cuz if you don't they will collapse.I bought the metal 24x28 one for $1400 and rigged tarps around the sides,a better idea,IMHO.4Mexicans put it together in about an hour, like watching a ballet!!side note:moved it twice, fully assembled, then sold it.

Before anyone goes off I have seen the Shed logic one and I am going to go ahead with my purchase reguardless

I need one I can leave up in the winter which was my main goal to start if you read the Top canopy (which is what I have now and have retreaved from the trees in a tangled mess more than once before pinning it to the ground)

Footpads or Stakes/Ropes, (http://topcanopy.com/accessories/accessories.php?osCsid=17ea926fdb0bc0396288682ee926538e) please click here. (http://topcanopy.com/accessories/accessories.php?osCsid=17ea926fdb0bc0396288682ee926538e)

Provides temporary seasonal storage and protection from sun and rain.

Perfect for vehicle storage, weddings, outdoor art shows, picnic, and flea/farmers' markets.

1 3/8" or 1 5/8" outer diameter galvanized steel poles

Side Height - 6' 8

stakes and ropes are extra smaller tubes no snow load??? I'm still going with the Shed logic ones..That be said the old one I have has done a good job for what it is over the summers ( again no winters or extreme weather)

For what it is worth I bought an 12x26 Shelter Logic from PepBoys with sides and anchors for about $350 before rebate. Total cost will be about $300 after rebates come back. I hate the anchor kit though so I will be returning it and end cost will be even less about $300 probably.

Keep them out of the direct sun, they don't like that. Set it up so it's under a tree or something like that and they will last forever. Set it up in the sun and you only get a few years, maybe less down south.

Not wanting to burst anyone's bubble but,
None of the poly or fabric covered units will last. I have used most as temporary storage at my shop, 2 car covers and a number of the tarp and tube deals. I have also lost a few of the covered units in summer storms. Anyone want to see my pile of bent legs and torn tarps?
In direct sunlight the fabric will not last more than 1 1/2 to 2 years. Under trees they get mildew and rot. They are for temporary storage.
The metal carports come in any length, width or height and last many years. They can be anchored on any surface. The screw in anchors you are referring to are probably mobile home anchors. The metal square tube carports also can be place ON the mobile home anchors, screwed in and therefore the carport doesn't touch the ground. No rust or corrosion.
While the metal will cost more initially, lets do the math. A 18 X 21 metal carport is $695 delivered and installed. No additional costs for the life of the carport. A fabric carport is $350 but you install it. (Also smaller). Now buy a new cover every 2 years @$200- $250 each, after 5 years what is the cost?
The metal carports can be totally enclosed, doors and windows added, workshops and secure storage areas added etc.
Just my 2 cents. I have learned from experience what I will use.

That's with no sides right just a roof?

How much is a full metal 12 x 25 with sides and a back but no front and where can I get a good price on one?

Pricing would depend on your area and your dealer.

Here in South Carolina a 12X26 is $795, add $320 for the sides and $325 for the back so the total not inc tax is $1440.

Hey AL that is the exact one I have .......I loved it but it has had a hard life... If I lived down south where Snow wasn't an issue I would consider another one ( But I would take it down during High winds) I have had it about 4 long summers (from snow to snow) and the tarps are still in good shape, dirty but still good. Pipes well thats another story and the reason I'm going with the all season ones.. I feel good about the shelter logics ones ( since I can compare them) the pipes are about 3 times the size and they have a snow and wind load rating...

The shelter logic the same size runs about $400 plus shipping....but you can't even compare them...The 12 x 28 x 11 ( Big enough for the skater) is about $700 plus shipping, cheap for I figure min. 4 full years ( winter and all summer) storage with no tax $$$'s

Anyway I'm puting my first order in tommorrow and yes it's mine

Proubly good for 10

I hope for 10 but I like to think worse case...I'm sure there's other factors too Mine is going to be on a pad tucked back under the trees so it will be protected from harsh winds and some of the snow but most of all the sun....
I ordered mine today I'm going to pick it up even though shipping was $90...for the 490 lbs. My rep there said that there plant is state of the art stuff and since I was so close he invited me to tour the plant......... So I guess I'm going to Ct in two weeks
Like I said from the start my old one worked fine for what it was this one is ALOT better than that one...and I can store the Skater in it all year ( winter ) If you think I would put my Skater under a piece if crap tent maybe you should rethink that.....

If you live where it snows under no circumstances put your boat under one of these cave ins.
I bought one and I don't care what the quality is it can fail.
We had major snow storms the very year I tried it and got over 2 feet of snow on top of this thing.
It collapsed... totally. I re-erected it and added rope across the trusses as bracing.
It collapsed again and this time I had no time to deal with the snow. Luckily it formed a snow bridge and didn't damage the boat as much as it could have. The snow supported itself and all the extra accumulation.

Even so one of the bars did contact the deck and cracked it.
The thing is they aren't designed to shed snow and it just accumulates, it don't slide off. Then the super strong skin stays intact and collapes the stucture. If the A-frames don't buckle the legs do. Or the whole thing skews sideways.
I then had to cut the cover and shovel a ton or so of snow off the boat and away from it.
If you think you can knock the snow off as needed picture a nice morning 3 am since I was called in to plow and seeing this thing a pile of snow on the ground. There was no shelter and there was no boat, just a pile of snow.

Winds.
I had tied this thing down I don't know how many times until I finally bought wood planks and drilled holes for the legs- bolted the legs to the planks. This locked the legs in place but wouldn't hold the tent in place.
Then crossed those with planks under the trailer and forced these down using the trailer.
The trailer affectively sat on the wood, which sat on the legs wood and it didn't move anymore......................then it snowed.

I would always push the snow off the top of mine several times when we get heavy snow then shovel it away when it slid down the sides. Two feet of snow on top of one of these is to much, especially when they start to dry rot ofter a few years. When they dry rot...forget about it.

Unless your willing to stand under it during a snow storm your not going to get enough snow off it even daily to keep it up. This isn't about a yearly amount of snow but what falls in a single nite.
I don't know the snow fall last year but it was never more than an inch on the ground all year. The year I put this damned thing up we got hit big time and in a major way. The year before wasn't a big snow fall year either, I was just lucky.:(
These things are to keep some rain off the item and mostly sun. Using them for anykind of bad weather will end up damaging the item its supposed to protect.

And don't underestimate the wind. You want this thing tied down so you yourself can not move it in any direction. If you can the wind can.

Like I said from the start if it works for ya great if not you can build a metal, wood or concrete building for all I care... the only reason this post was started was to give anyone intrested a deal on one ( I'm not making jack sheet on these but I did save myself a bunch and so did the other person) All I can say is I looked at them and it will suit my needs.....If you think I'd park my POS Skater under it and wait for it to fall you probablly would be wrong..... and since I work for the town and have to plow till it's over all I can do is hope it stays up until I get home and clean the snow off before I go to bed ( a little common sense goes a long way)

Jeff

May be I can just store it in your garage ??????????

Well, as opposed to leaving the boat out in the weather, it offers some protection and it's no more inconvenient than a regular cover/tarp in the snow. Even with a well supported tarp, if you get a 20" snowfall you still pretty much have to go out a couple times during the storm and brush the snow off if you want to avoid problems. Not the ticket however if you leave the boat at a summer home where you can't get to it during the storm.

If the village I live in passes a "no outdoor boat storage" ordinance, I'm planning on buying one of these just to piss them off. It's a temporary structure, so I don't see what they can do about it. Hell, I'll even put orange snow fence around it to "keep the dogs from peeing on it".

All in all, they do work real well, even in snow. One thing I also did was get black roofing rubber and line the entire floor of the shelter because I put mine up on grass. It kept the moisture from rising up from the ground and kept everything even drier inside.

I hope tents don't fall down in the snow...

I have 2 30x50 frame tents and 1 40x70 going up in December:eek: A bit over $40k in equipment.

Seriously though, These are plenty strong for a mild snow load. The cheapo pep-boys $200 will collapse. With 20 years of frame tent experience in Mass/NH guiding my decision I am going to get one of these and not worry about it unless we are slated to get a blizzard. At that point I will put a small heater in it and it will shed snow nicely. One of those little ceramic ones a few feet below the top will do it. It has been my experience that a 30x50 frame will shed all of the snow on it within 5 minutes of turning on a tent heater. That tent will hold alot more snow than this will as it has a fixed pitch not a rounded top.

That's a good idea (heater) I think I'll try that this year. When we had a big snow last year I went out once in the middle of the night and brushed mine off.

I'm trying to figure out a way to insulate mine some, I have a propane rocket heater that heats my garage in minutes. I was thinking putting 2" styrofoam on the inside but they get like $20 for a 2 x 8 sheet.

What's roofing rubber? Does it come in a roll?

100plus,
Yeah, it comes in a roll. 10 ft. wide by 100 ft long. It is quite heavy, probably 120 mils thick. It is made by Firestone, Badyear, ect. My neighbor recently purchased a piece 20 ft. wide to build a backyard pond(lake), but not sure where he got it. I'll try to find out and let you know.

The heaters work very well to make tents shed snow, it is not easy to keep a tent 70 degrees in the winter. For example I am putting 4 heaters totalling 500,000 BTU's in a 40x70 the first week in December for a night function. But for this purpose you are only trying to keep the top foot of it 35 degrees. Thats easy!

My heater will take the chill off in a few minutes but if it was insulated some it would stay warm. I was thinking maybe hanging moving pads on the sides.

After many years of putting up steel building I don't understand why I didn't think of that???
Metal buildings are nothing more than a steel stucture covered with insolation ( what you see from the inside is the backside of it ussaully with a white plastic backer) then cover with a layer of steel siding.........

Mike I placed an order with them for 2 of the 28 long 12 wide 11 high on monday they will be ready for pick up mid week ( they are doing invintory or I could have picked them up this saturday  ) let me know if you intrestred....

On another note while at work today I saw one ( cover it) roadside and the guy was pulling his F 250 under it (24 X 24) I stopped to ask him about it and he said best thing since sliced bread, said he leaves his plow truck under it and when it snows he opens the door and goes when he gets back he parks the truck inside and closes the door with in 20 min the snow ( whats left ) slides right off ( heat from the truck I guess) said his has been up 3 years and it still looked good but a little dirty..........

 If you heat the shed to shed snow then insulate this will do what?

I only posted this as a heads up. If your determined to use these things where it can snow a whole lot overnite then check the sag zone near the side rail. Snow don't slide off the tarp and weights it down into pockets to build all the way up to the peak. Also I found it easier to knock the snow off from the inside rather than the outside. You just push the pockets up and the snow slides off. Which is refilled from above...repeat.
AS for the robustness these things don't have proper leg bracing and a large snow load will cork screw the legs and collapse it. If nothing else some kind of an alarm might be the best thing. If the tarp sags too much it wakes you up way before your structure or boat is in danger. Even then it only sags so much and thats it.

I'm in the same boat Ron V is in:D If it snows I go into work to plow. So the episode for me was less than a full nite. Wasn't even 8 hours. An alarm would have worked, it would just have taken me more time to get into work.
Some people are missing that this episode happened over nite, not a week or a month.

A brief follow up to post #56. If you buy roofing rubber, it only comes 10 ft wide. I checked the thickness of mine and it was 60 mils, not 120 as stated in my earlier post. Talked to my neighbor who has the pond in his yard and he said he got his 20 ft wide piece from a place called "Just Liners". Try justliners.com. He told me his is 45 mils thick and cost 39 cents a sq. ft.

What would worry me about the heater inside is melting the snow then having it slide down the side then refreezing later. They handle snow good but ice is destructive.

Well If it's any consolation I put mine up today......
first off I will be calling them to tell them to make ther instuctiuons BETTER???? It wiould have saved me time if they where better...

second seperate all your parts by # and lay them out it will save more time...

third a cordless drill is kick asss at tighting bolts on this thing

fourth build the frame before your buddys get there then have them come help lift the last set of legs and put the cover on ( you'll be done in 45 min

I would say my total time from opening the box to backing in the Skater was from 11 am to 4 pm ( about 5 hours)

I'm going to call this thing built on Xmas 06 it will make it easy to measure time on it... I will say I am happy with what it is ( but its alot bigger than I thought it was going to be??) If I was in Fla I would want one lower maybe the 10 footer instead of the 12

My guess is 5 years with no problems baring anything (Trees) falling on it...

If a patch is unavailable to you Mike, You could also use Tyvek tape, the stuff they use to hold tyvek on the side of houses, etc. I have a ton of it all over mine and it works great. Ducttape dissinagrates and peels quickly. The tyvek tape can also patch larger rips and holes to. If ya ever want some and can't find it...let me know !

At100,
Tell me how big the holes are and your address and I will send you proper tent patches. I have mostly white but I may have your color in the right size. The patches are more adhesive than duct tape and have a vinyl fabric backing just like the tent itself.

Or if you want a repair that will last the life of the top I can send you some tent material and you can contact cement it in place. Either one would be essentially permanent.

Food for thought. I use nothing but silver tarps. Can't remember where I got them off hand, but many sizes, or custom made. Just go the Google thing.
In Puget Sound, so snow not much of a problem. Silver holds up the best. Get years out of them, and thats with power washing the spring pollen and over winter tree crap off. My van and Flat bottom are in the back under canopy's too. No room in the shop..there fulla motorcycles!
Anyway, I'm sheltered pretty well from wind with the trees, but a good windstorm coming has me simply getting out 12' ratchet tiedowns. Cross tie to the trailer sides, bumpers on the van. The big boat in front is cross tied to the trailer (blue straps..real hard to see), zero prob..and it has seen severe winds (damn power was out 3 days one time). You can make extentions with Electrical EMT pipe and connecters for height issues. Something to think about. And so far, falling branches...well, been darn lucky!. And snow will slide off by a good back and forth shake, or tap on the underside with a broom.

Whats the going rate for one just like yours to Londonderry?

How long for delivery?

I need to get some junk outside fast my season is about to start.

Is there any irony in storing a frame tent in a frame tent? I just bought a 40x70 frame tent and I just don't have room in the building to store it... The parts are 23 feet long and it weighs 3500 pounds so moving it all out of the way frequently isn't an option.
