What are the pros/cons for an SRX an a bass hull. I have a jackplate, and a nosecone on a stock OMC V6 gearcase. I have a 26" Raker that runs great on top but poor holeshot. I swapped to my 27" Shooter with a smaller hub and the holeshooter is great, but lacks the lift on top. Would the SRX be the best of both worlds?

I'd try a Renagade before the SRX. Usually bass boats are too heavy for over hub props. Of course if you have an Allison or Bullet, then that's different.

Unfortunatley it is not an Allison or Bullet, it is a Stratos. What are the differences between a Shooter and a Renegade? Also, is there another prop with the small hub like a Renegade, but a 3 blade performance prop?

I tried one on a 1600 lb hull with a 225XP Looper. I needed 5500 rpm for about 25 seconds to get on plane. Once up it ran about the same as my modified Raker. For top end with an OMC on a full size/full weight bass boat it's hard to beat the Raker or the Tempest.

I was wondering about extreme cavitation out off the hole with the SRX. How can I improve the holeshot with the Raker. Will drilling out the holes on the barrel for more cavitation do more harm than good?

I have a 3 blade large hub 21 inch Tempest Plus with the PVS plugs removed which gives a similar- but still not quite as good a holeshot as my well tuned 4 blade small hub 21 inch Trophy Plus. On the Tempest, this is a total of 3 holes, each of just under 3/4 diameter. If I remember my Rakers when I ran OMCs, they had much smaller holes, in the range of 3/8 inch or so. I'd start by going up a 1/16 inch to start and see if you can feel a difference. If not much change, then start going up in 1/8 increments. If you stay below 5/8 inch diameter and run into the old "oops, too much" problem, you can always have the Raker machined to take the standard Merc PVS plugs and start over. Another alternative is to borrow a Tempest Plus in about 1 inch lower pitch than the Raker and play with the PVS plugs for holeshot. The Tempest Plus runs very similar to the Raker but has better cupping on the back tips of the blades which allows it to run at somewhat higher heights. I've run a 22 Raker against a 21 Tempest with my current rig, with rpms staying almost the same, but the Tempest running 1 mph faster since it would run higher. With the PVS plugs out, the Tempest Plus had a better holeshot than the stock Raker.

I will try to drill the holes out and see if there is an improvement. I am not sure I will be getting as drastic as an impovement as I am hoping for, but I guess it is either a great holeshot or more top end.

Do they make a hub kit for an OMC to be able to run a Tempest? I have found one for cheap. Also, Is a 25 more comparable to a 24 or 26 Raker.

The one with the PVS plugs? If so, it should run the big square plastic insert inside the hub. If so, Merc makes a replacement hub kit for OMCs. If I recall correctly, the older Tempests don't have the plastic insert and must be drilled part way down internally on the gearcase side to fit the OMC. It's easier the other way around, the OMC props fit a Merc with just a thin prop nut and a different thrust washer. I'd use a 25 Tempest to replace a 26 Raker.
