What is it with people exagerating rough water? Sometimes to the point of ridiculousness?
I am not pointing out anyone in particular, but you hear people talking about running 80 mph in a allison or hydrostream on 2' waves....maybe 6 inch, but to me a 2 foot wave is big and would pound a smaller boat like that. I watched a 27-29 Velocity cruizin' at say 70-80 across 1-2' waves this weekend and wouldnt think many would be going over 50 in an allison or hydro, triad, etc. Maybe I'm scared? All I know is 30 in our 19 foot ski boat (nautique) was ROUGH in that water. I dunno, I just got all fired up on the phone with a telemarketer and I'm not thinking clearly, so this prolly doesnt make sense, but I just wonder if I am the only one who thinks people may exagerate what they say a wave height really is?

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed this 'ROK. Some have no idea what 2's & 3's really are. http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5709/smokincoolan4.gif (http://imageshack.us)

I don't doubt they are doing it as much as I doubt their sanity.About 25 years ago I cruised along on a narrow river at 80 in 2 footers in a 17 foot tunnel.I now realize they were as close together as they were tall,so no big deal. But the same water was misery and pulled the motor loose from it's mounts in my CorrectCraft. It's all relevant. Now I have a 26 foot tunnel and at 80 mph 3 foot is all she want's.

Depends on what your talking about,
2' is some hairy stuff no matter where you are taking them:eek:
It is also relative to what you're operating and what is operating around you. I have fit's running over cruiser wakes.
BUT
In the inlets, bays and large open lakes, 2' takes on a different notation than on a smaller lake (<1 mile wide). The spacing makes a HUGE difference when they are 12' apart as opposed to 3' on a smaller lake or river. I am excluding massive cruiser wakes, which have that suicidal roll behind them:eek:
I broke my bottom in 1 1/2' small lake chop which you can ride on top, but still pounds the hell out of the bottom, enough for another trip to Canada:p
Although,
I will go out in 1' close chop to this day;) :D

Seem to me the biggest differance here would be CHOP vs SLOP . In a consistent chop you can stand the boat on it tail and maintain mph when running directly into the wind . Now that being said don't even think about trying to run a sub 20' boat in slop a or across the swells . Not A Good Idea !Rich Martin 018:eek:

I am pretty sure Bash is talking about the typical SALT WATER (or BIG LAKE or BIG RIVER) chop with swells in the mix or the always popular swells with chop on top ;)
