read the gpi story lets discuss 1" spacers

i want to discuss the famous 1" spacers because i'm wondering if it is the cause of air leaks in the system on these motors horn or carb,the reason i want to discuss this is i put one on each of my 245 carb motors 60 hours since a full rebop the carbs and intake felt cool to the touch but were sweating the motors ran real doggy had no power in any range it was 90 degrees out could barely plane off the boat 23' daytona 4 people my wife noticed something was wrong she said whats wrong with it needless i was disapointed with my new mod i took them off and found leakage around the reeds and the gaskets were soaked i mentioned this to ruck said lucky it was hot out or it would of blown both motors i just spent $9,000.00 two years prior on the motors,what i dont get about the spacers is there is a texture on them but very slippery so how do they seal ,i have since ported the intake and gained 500 rpm and 7 mph no other changes the motors have excelent snap over a nonported intake so i,m done with the spacers for now. jay

MY SPACER IS NOT LEAKING, AND HAVE HAD GOOD RESULTS.

Also, did you install the extension for the throttle rod to get full throttle?:eek:

And no The spacer didnt cause any leaking.It was a regular old stock mercury 1" spacer plate.I never even installed it.You guys are talking about his injector plate.Thats different.:)
