HI ,can any one help me out with my project boat ?im new to outboard perfomance.just picked up1984 baja 184 sport with older 130 hp chrysler.prev. owner claimed boat had 200 merc that was shot and had somebody install the chrysler for$$$ reasons.anyway i got a good deal on this boat and am looking for any info on older baja hulls.i also
have opp. to buy older 175 blackmax.i think the motor is a 1979.any info on this motor would be great too.sounds like most of the guys run newer 2.4 or 2.5 but this is going to be a low $$$ project.how should i set this boat up? great forum- any help appreciated.

I had the same boat with a 2.4 200 ,ran in the low 70s .They like lots of setback for those speeds .Use the search function might finds lots of good info .

thanks for the responce airboater.im new to this forum stuff.any body else out there?what about the 175 merc?i believe this is a 2.0L.it comes with a23p cleaver prop.

Ran A Sport 160 With A 2.4 200 For Years. Got The Boat To 90.8 On Gps. Good Steering Solid Motor Mounts. Foot Throttle And Jack It Back. Good Luck And Let Her Rip

welcome to screamandfly. the 175 will be enough power for you to take it out, and have some fun. you may need a new prop if you do end up buying it tho.but trimmed and jacked up with 6" setback, it should be a great ride. not too hairy, and plenty fast. and hey, if that dont float your boat, you can always sell it, and upgrade to a 200.
