I just bought a 68 mallo 16ft tunnel hull, and was wondering if anyone knew anyting about them.

The name doesn't ring a bell, but a picture might help. There weren't many tunnels in the 1960's. We'd really like to see it:)

Looks like a Missle splash.

Does anyone know what speeds I can expect out of this boat? It a mid 70s 150 with a 26 pitch prop, and I have a 28pitch cleaver. Thanks.

Be very careful with that boat. If it is a Missle copy they can blow over with an inline and border on suicide with a V-6. Look at the Barracuda tunnel hull thread under outboard racing and history forum and listen to what these guys have to say. Looks really cool and can be a great project and a fun boat, but be careful. Play safe and God Bless. Smitty

Looks like a missle splash to me also. Good luck with it and be SAFE. I would guess that it should run 65-70. I have an XS motor and run 67-69 without getting into any major trouble. But be very careful it can blow over without giving you any warning. Just get as much seat time as possible before you go trying to set any speed records.

I got like 60 out of it with a 19 pitch stainless couldnt get it to plane with the other props I need a hydralic jack plate the one on it now you have to adjust it with a wrench. Pretty much impossable to do once on plane.

60 with your 19 would have the motor really screaming ... way beyond normal rpm. You should be able to get it to run with one of the others if they aren't junk. Motor looks very high in the pics. How low can you take it?

That's a BP gearcase he has on EBAY. It won't fit this motor.

I had the motor reving between 5800-6000 I know its probably to high to rev that motor but I was just trying to get as much speed out of it as possable. I can drop the motor about 1 1/2".

5800-6000 is fine for your motor, but there is no way you were close to 60 mph with a 19 at that rpm. More like 48-50

I ran a 20" and 22" chopper on my Magnum with a 1500XS at 6800 to 7200 rpms and broke 60 mph (Actually got clocked at 64 once with radar at a race) but I was jacked up on a 6" setback plate. It did get sort up loose a few times. Lowering the motor slows you down. Choppers are the way to go on these boat as with the bow lift from the prop you don't need to get trim crazy to get them to run.

6000 is fine even on an old motor like that? It seemed awfully high. 60 was on the speedo not gps maybe I should invest in one so I dont sound stupid again.

Should I just keep the motor were it is and get a better prop instead of buying a hydralic jack plate or is the jack plate a good investmet period.
