got my weldon pump in my boat, hooked up to a 280 , pump sounds good, when i fire up the motor , the pump sounds like i put 24 volts to it ?, when i get the boat up on a plane it sounds like the fuel pump is gonna blow apart its running so fast ? , when i come off a plane the fuel pump whines down....???? is this normal , it never did this on my 260 ? is it just the altanator putting out voltage?

Hypothesis:

Higher RPM, more fuel consumption, not as much backpressure from the regulator, allows it to spool up a bit more?

Try disconnecting the fuel rail, stick the hose in the fuel filler and turn it on, see how fast it spins with no pressure load...

It has a on-board computer built into a micro chip in the pump. It can sense the engine needs more fuel and starts pumping faster, top secret ****!!!
(I could not help it)

Do you have a volt gauge??

Voltage regulator in Alternator could be shorted and putting out over voltage.

driving me nuts , i dont have a fuel pressure guage , but u should hear the rpm of the pump:eek: i thought it was gonna blow the bearing out , sounds like a model airplane?

I agree with Big Al...
Check your voltage output while running.Regulator could be shot.

mine is always noisy... noiser when there is less back pressure tho. check with a voltmeter to be sure (at idle I am 14v, WOT im getting 16v+ ) remember that the 280s charging systems have alot more balls than the old 12 amp stuff. :D
