Hopefully someone can help , I just got heads back from machine shop . The sparkplug threads were bad so I had helicoils installed , I noticed after 2 times out with boat that I am getting some seapage out of the sparkplug area . I retorqued the plugs the second time and the problem is still there .

HI. If plug has been re and re. more than once gasket is flattened. try new ring gasket,or even double up gasket [2] you can spin gaskets on and off on plugs thanks.

you can also use a non drying pipe thread sealant avalible at hardware stores. be very sparinly with it. The seapage is probably coming from in between the helicoil and the head threads. a small amount of sealer should stop it. good luck, john

You could also try some copper anti seize.

Its why we don't use standard (copper inriched) bottom paints on outdrives (aluminum). you also have to be carefull with some of the anti-sieze products on your bolts going into aluminum blocks..will eat the treads away.

a couple of seconds on google found these comments... its not on boats, but the rules are the same.

Electrolysis takes place, and the aluminum is the looser. I did a small study on the subject back in high school chemistry.

Edit: in some instances copper and aluminum are ok and even fused together, but not usually ok in contact with water, especially salt water.

Been using it on my Nissan Z head for years, and it is a highly pressurized environment if you know what I mean. So far, no plugs blown through the hood.

If worried about copper suspended in anti seize, use the regular kind.
