:) THE BOYS IN SOUTH GEORGIA HAVE BEEN HVE BEEN GIVEN THE OK!!
AFTER SEVERAL MEETINGS, TWO HANDFULLS OF PHONE CONVERSATIONS, A COUNTLESS NUMBER OF FAXES, AND ALOT OF HELP FROM OFFICIALS AND SOME BUDDIES WE ARE HAVING THE "" SOUTH GEORGIA SHOWDOWN""!! SEPTEMBER THE 23rd ON THE FLINT RIVER JUST SOUTH OF BAINBRIDGE. THIS IS NO MORE THAN WHAT WE ARE USE TO, WE HAVE JUST BEEN GIVEN THE OK. THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE AND NO MONEY TO BE WON, JUST SOME GOOD OLE STREET RACING ON THE WATER. THE D N R IS GOING TO MANAGE THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC(thanks if you are reading) SO ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS RACE. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ONE OF THIS KIND IN THIS PART SO WE ARE HOPING FOR A GOOD TURNOUT, AND SOME GOOD ATMOSPHERE FOR OUR FIRST ONE IN HOPES IT WONT BE OUR LAST.
FOR THOSE THAT ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS AREA BUT ARE INTERESTED WE ARE LOCATED ABOUT 45 MIN NORTH OF TALLAHASSEE FLORIDA, 45 MIN EAST OF DOTHAN ALABAMA. HWY 27 AND HWY 84 RUN RIGHT THROUGH. IF YOURE COMING ONCE YOU ARRIVE THERE ARE 4 MOTELS WITHIN 5 MIN. OF TWO BOAT LANDINGS, WHICH ARE ONLY LESS THAN 10 MIN. FROM THE SAND BAR WHERE THE EVENT WILL BE HELD.THERE ARE ALSO CAMPING AVAILABLE, ONE RIGHT ACROSS THE ROAD FROM THE LANDING.

WE WOULD LIKE TO KINDA GET AN IDEA OF HOW MANY TO EXPECT, SO IF YOU DONT MIND THROW ME A LITTLE SOMETHING BACK ON THIS.

Did you get the approval from the Corp of Engineers, & Coast Guard also? Last time I talked to someone from your area they mentioned you thought they would have to grant you a permit also.

I have tried to write this twice and both times it gave me an error:mad:

This one should go into the record books. I am told we have the support and a permit from the Ga. DNR, US Army Corps of Engineers and the local law enforcement agencies...wow that is a mouthful. We won't be looking over our shoulder for the man, he will be right beside us:D They will be helping with river trafic so we should have good water and a safe environment to race.

The sight is great with a long sandbar and lots of sand to play or walk in for the kids. There is a rise to the bar so if you want it will elevate spectators above the river level giving you a great veiw of the course. What more could we ask for...well maybe I shouldn't ask that question..you know what I mean.

The standard sandbar activities will be allowed, all the law asks us to do is be responsible and don't drink and drive your boat. Lets have a good turnout and there should be no problem getting another event planned. Remember this is the first of what we hope to be many so if you want to be involved you need to show up!!

It Is One Hell Of A Paper Trail To Where We Are Now, But To Answer Youre Question Yes All The Permits Have Been Gotten. I Will Meet With The Law Envorcement Gang Again On Tuesday Just To Finalize Everything. Jimmy Are You Planning On Trying To Make It, If So I Will Give You A Little Crash Course On The Steps I Went Through. Not sure yet if I will be able to make it or not at this time, hope everything works out ok. I must say it looks like the Ga DNR is trying to work with you guys and at least you just have them to deal with where you are. When I last talked to Col. West he did seem like he was willing to work out details so the performance boaters could enjoy their boat as well as everyone else. Too bad that there is just so much paperwork and time wasted to get it done, guess you never get too old that you don't have to get permission from someone.:D Good luck, and be safe! Maybe we don't trust DNR, I was told we didn't need a permit for Smith Bend and the calvary showed up, so be careful. Just ain't the same with them hawking you when you line up, if you get a little loose are you gonna have to get the sobriety test? Just some thoughts that I have heard from people, I hope this is the start of some cooperation but I am still gun shy from the way things happened at Smith Bend. I Knew The Dnr Was At Smith Bend And I Said A Word To No One That Was Heading Over That Way. I Could Have Stopped About 20 Boats From Coming Over To The Rally And Had Our Own On The Flint But I Come And Supported. The Dnr Has Told Me Things Would Resume As A Normal Weekend On The Sand Bar And All We Can Do At This Point Is Trust Them, And After All The Conversations And Meetings And Seeing How Truly Excited They Are And Every One In Bainbridge As Far As That Goes I Do. Now I Paid The Insurance Today And Everything Is As Planned So We Would Love To See Yall Come And Support.
We Will Be Racing, And Racing Alot On Sept.23 On The Flint.
Right Now We Are Looking At 20 Some Odd Boats That Can Run, Not Including The Bama Gang,,,, Hope To See Yall There!!!!!:) :) :)

Sounds great. We know from putting on the Rumble how much work it takes behind scenes to pull off an event like this.
Especially LEGALLY!! That is huge!
Too short of notice for me as we just moved to S.Fla from Ohio but that sounds to me like the first of an annual event!

How far is this sandbar from the boat basin? I used to go to a big sandbar up river from Bainbridge, I think they called Reynolds, never went down river. I quit going because of the cops. Sounds like you've got it under control. I'll give it another shot. REW

Take Hyw. 84 east to Bainbridge when you get to the bypass turn right, when you cross the river take the next exit. This is Shotwell st. ( I think that is how it is spelled ) you will be at the boat basin. There is a large American flag there. When you exit off the ramp there is a campground on your left the boat launch is directly across the street from the campground. When you go out into the river turn down river ( to the left ) you will only be apx 2.5 miles from the sandbar.
If you come in on Hwy. 27 just stay on the bypass everthing else is the same.

Can we try to get more of the sandbar cleared...get the trees cut down so we can have more length? I think the crowd is only going to get bigger. We need more room to park the race boats and that is a good problem to have.

SCOTT TO ANSWER YOURE QUESTION I HAVE HAD SOME FEED BACK ON SOME DIFFERENT THINGS AND SPACE IS ONE OF THEM. WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM THERE IF IT WASNT FOR THE TREES, BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT WE CAN DO. THE OTHER IS AN AREA FOR THE ''RACE BOATS'' TO PARK WITH EASY IN AND OUT ACCESS, IF THAT IS POSSIBLE. THE OTHER IS THERE WAS ALOT OF BOATS ANCHORED OUT AND THE PEOPLE NEVER GOT OUT OF THE BOAT, THEY COULD HAVE SAT ACROSS THE RIVER, BUT WHO KNEW WE WOULD HAVE THIS PROBLEM AT OUR FIRST EVENT.

I think everyone should be restricted to a maximum cut of 26cc heads. 300 drags should have to run 34cc heads.

In other words, I would like to be able to win a race. It's all about me in my world.

The hole point in the type racing that we are doing is to be able to run what ever combination you want. If a guy shows up with nos and you think you can beat him...go get him. There are two or three good organized groups to race with if that is what your after..... tighten up your heads and come on back;)

All This Goes To Show Is That If We Stick Together And Keep Showing The Respect Toward Others, Like The Law Enforcement And Fellow Racers That We Were Taught Our Whole Life We Can Make It Happen.

This Comment Was Not Stated To Start Another Disagreement About The Law Enforcement, We Have Some That We Are Proud Of And We Have Mutual Respect With Each Other. I think Saturday went better than we all expected. I know I had a blast, and seems like everyone else did too!! I haven't heard not one single negative remark from anyone on the sandbar, and people I have talked with this week. Everyone keeps asking when the next one will be. I think all that participated on the enforcement side had just as much fun as everyone else. I know they had their hands full, but they really done a good job. Looking forward to next year!! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Bobby, You are exactly right about the law enforcement. They didn't bother anybody because we showed them respect and thanked them for being there and supporting this event. If it's okay with you, I would like to put an ad in the paper and thank them for their support. I have heard only good things about this event and I don't think we will have any problem having it again next year. You did a great job Bobby, thanks!!!

Sounds like yall's DNR was as cool as ours the past weekend. Heck, we had one officer that got upset cause we weren't racing early enough, said he would be back when he could watch some racin. It's good to hear that the DNR is cooperating with these events, and I think the more they are exposed to our level of SAFETY and RESPONSIBILITY they will have a better attitude about these events. Just my opinion, sounds like yall' had a great weekend like we did.
