first i would like to say that this is an excellent forum and i have been reading it for some time now. I dont know why i didnt register sooner.

I will tell you a little about myself then i will ask my question.
I am currently in the airforce and living in california but i only have 4 more months left until i go back to tennessee. I love bass fishing and speed so in my mind the best boat out their is a BULLET.(opinion) 85mph tournament loaded is pretty good.
i couldnt afford a bullet so i ended up getting a 94' skeeter with a 200 xri. and it also has a paralift. i forgot propsize-i'll get it tommorrow. the boat is in great shape with low hours-gelcoat looks like it was sprayed yesterday. motor runs great but it needs more kick.

i am a avid hotrodder so my question is. when you shave the heads on a outboard is it the same machining process as on a 4stroke. meaning--are you just flatmilling the heads down a given amount or are you angle milling or what. and when i get my heads milled how much is to much on a stock setup and 93 gas.

i just realized how much i typed-if you have ADD im sorry. LOL

merc heads if they are the " normal" non Oring heads they are just a flat mill and you will want to yeild 145 PSI compression to run premium pump fuel on my 2.4 i had to take off .100 but depending on your existing compression and leakage percentages you may have to take off alot less.... it also may have alot of hours on it and is due for rings. so do a leakdown before you shave the heads.. if leakage is less than around 5-10% go ahead and shave .010 at a time and recheck compression untill the # are where you want... as a general rule 145PSI occures with 34-36CC on a 2.5L... on my 2.4 im around 30 CC or so...

ok got it, thanks for your reply. im sorry for not responding earlier but my comp at home doesnt have internet anymore. next time i will wait to leave a question when i can stay near a working computer long enough to see what you guys have to say and be a part of the conversation.
my motor is a 1994 200xri and i plan on shaving the heads then getting the lower unit worked with lower water intakes and a nose cone. i want to get into the 80's with these mods. im at 77mph now with 10 gallons of gas and just me in the boat.
my prop is a 25p tempest. im having a hard time spinning it up(with a full boat), so far i can only get about 5500rpm's but im hoping with the added power of the shaved heads and the slicker design on the nose cone i can get it up to 5800 or higher but i daont plan on going over 6200 rpm.
what do you guys think. do you think that with these mods i might even get enough power to spin this prop if i add some cup for more bow lift?

MAYBE!!! depends on current condition of the engine... you may be better off having the prop worked a bit and have them add a cuple hundred RPM as it is.. 5500 on a 200 is starting to lug the motor, 150's can go to 5000 but 200's cant.. they like to rev... 6500 is the upper range of a stock motors powerband.. aim for 6K more is there for sure... have you tried a Trophy+ ??? or any other props for that matter

Your numbers are way off. borrow a GPS from someone to find out accurate actual numbers. had a few skeeters over the years & know alot of they're capabilities. pm me & we can discuss some things.
later

good catch.... didnt even look yep #### are off... i know of a skeeter or 2 that do 80+ but they are spining larger props, at about 2K more RPM....

I Think Those Boats Like About 12" Of Plate
