OK looking for a little help!!! Im ready to start setting up my viper that never was rigged... I have a 1987 merc 115 that im going to use to start with.. What jack plate should i use?? Also should i do anything with low water pick up?? what prop would be good?? Also is it true that you can mount 2 steering racks together to make dual cable steering???? One more big question looking for the proper way to drill my transom keep in mind this never had a hole in it so i want to do this right...
I drilled a virgin Hydrostream transom, borrowed the jig/template from a local dealer/easy.Low water pick up is a must have item,I would pick the best jackplate that you can afford so it will only be mounted once even if you swap motors a few times a season the transom stays sealed,The other members will give prop advise as I have never ran a black motor.Do it right the first time(drilling) you only have one shot.We all want pics of the process!
Good luck Rolf

When drilling the transom ensure that the template is squared to the pad, NOT to the top of the transom. Mine was off by 3/16" !
