on a merc where the water comes out of the top of the head and than to the other than down to a T on hose goes to the exhaust and the other goes out. well what happens if you block off the one that goes to the exhaust and run two hoses out the bottom?

That 200 Is A Steel Bore Motor. It Needs Heat To Make Power. Leave All The Cooling The Stock Way. Make Sure The Poppet Valve Is Good And That On Top End You Have 10 Psi Of H20 Press. And Let It Eat. Leave The Stock T-stats In It I Believe They Are 143 Degree. Also That Motor Will Run Hard All The Way To 6300rpm's Thats What I Used To Turn Mine All Stock Except Heads Cut Bob's Snout On The Exhaust And Bob's Tuner, And Velocity Stacks. Stock Jetting Will Also Be Ok With The Mods I Have. You Can Also Raise Timing To 25degrees If You Run Premium. That Will Really Wake It Up. But What Do I Know............

Messing with factory timing is playing with disaster, unless you are removing the advance/retard modules(s) and going to fixed WOT timing.

Everything else mentioned above, strongly agree.

The two-hose setup is used with high-performance motors without thermos or poppets, where one hose is from the teed head dumps and the other one is the poppet dump. On your motor, the poppet dumps down the mid housing, and only when flow and pressure allows; and the head dumps into the mid fitting and pee hole, when the motor is warmed up.

Leave it alone. Cut the heads if you need more power, don't waste money on gimmick add-ons. Stock port timing limits useful RPM to the low to mid 6000's, and the stock cooling system is designed to function in that range.
