Well, I thought I had all of the bits to rig my throttle, but to no avail.

I am using a Johnny with 33C style cables. At the throttle end I am using a Teleflex Merc style adapter kit P/N 301901. The problem is that the "barrel" from the Teleflex kit will not go into the boss on the throttle. The barrel is about 0.62 inch and the boss it goes into on the throttle is about 0.59 inch. What am I doing wrong?

If anyone has a Merc or OMC throttle cable lying around I would sure appreciate a measurement of the barrel diameter of each. Either I am doing something wrong or the Hot Foot (Bob's) is made incorrectly. I doubt the Teleflex part is incorrect.

Hey riverman, I hate those adapters, why not just use a cable for the jonnyrude? I am not at my shop right now but I bet the merc and j&e barrels are diffent size. a new cable is only about 40 bucks and I have a bunch of used ones if you need one. let me know the length... john

...it's gonna work backwards anyway. Mercs pull the throttle cable, OMCs push. My Bob's Hot Foot is labeled Merc and OMC on their own respective
barrel sockets, and they are definitely different sizes.

I know about the push/pull thing Rick, I figured that out by looking under the hood of my 60 Johnny. :) What I didn't realize is that the Hot Shot could be used with both Merc and OMC cables.

I tried fitting the adapters to the throttle and the barrel was sloppy in one hole and wouldn't fit in the other. I tried a Merc cable in the top hole and it fit perfect. I'm sure a OMC cable will fit fine in the bottom one.

I was going to open up the bottom hole with a 5/8 end mill as the teleflex adapter was 0.62 diameter. I think I will just use an OMC cable.
