sportmaster?

Can you tell me if all sportmaster lower units are the same? and also, can you put the guts out of a cle in them? thanks, bobby

Yes, CLE innards go in a Sportmaster. The difference internally is the driveshaft on a Sportmaster has 2 bearings and everything else has one. The single bearing CLE driveshaft will work in a Sportmaster housing.

Didn't the early sportmasters have 1 bearing on the driveshaft.

Not that I'm aware of, but I don't know for sure. I bought a bare Sportmaster housing when they first became available and HalfFast put my CLE guts in it. I was made aware of the driveshaft bearing difference at that time. It seems like it required some spacer, but since he did the work I don't know for sure.
