is it possible for debris to get sucked into the engine block through the water pickup and plug up one side? my water pressure has dropped to 2psi but my water pump looks ok. i can not find any blockage anywhere. i have my water psi gauge tapped in on the line between the heads at the top.

Are you running a low water pick-up? Did you check the line at the gauge?

It's certainly possible for passages to be blocked, but if I understand where your water fitting is, that's not correct. You need to remove the 1/2" pipe plug at the top of the block, and install a fitting there. Then your reading pressure at the highest point in the block.

this is all happening after i installed a low water pickup. i am thinkng some epoxy may have come loose and made its way into the block. i was reading 10-11 psi before i installed this pickup.

FWIW, I bought a livorsi gauge (water psi) this year and the line is only 1/16" inside diameter(I think), last year I used a offbrand gauge and 1/8 insidedia. line, I get about 5 more psi with the smaller line. Also T. stand is rite, use the hole at the top of the block with a fitting in it. I was always worried about psi myself, now things are fine. 87 merc 175.
