ive heard late 01 - early 02 motors and newer got top pinned.

If I'm not mistaken 2001.......I do know I tore a 2000 Drag motor in 2000 and it was top pinned BUT it was a 1 ringer ...Not sure about the 280.

You know there's a real easy way to check yours... :D :D

Pull the heads. ;) :D If they're factory top-pinned you will see the pin. :cool:

Ziemer is correct,

Via Mercury documentation serial # 0T430856 and above came with top pinned pistons from Merc. This engine was Manufactured in 04/02, so it was a late 2002 model engine.

Not many 2002's were top pinned only the ones that came out after April.
All 2003 and newer are top-pinned
