Only have time to post two images, then it's back to the water I go. What a day - awesome racing, a huge turnout, and everything went well. Again, very hazy out, so photo quality suffered. Very tough shooting conditions. I'll post many more later...

yep, that's wing nut - poor guy had a tough night, lol:p

Tons of great boats here - and more STVs than I've ever seen in one spot. Lots of good racing today, and tomorrow is speed runs.
Can't wait! :D

More photos coming very soon tonight. Tony and crew put on an amazing event. Very well organized, and it ran like a clock. Thank you to them!

I also want to thank Trey for the ride in his STV Euro/2.5 OptiMax. That boat can run!

Tomorrow will be even more wild - I can't wait!

I just couldn't work out a good way to get there.:(
I don't have the time to drive, and I couldn't find a good flight. I'm hoping next year it'll work out better. :)

I'm having a great time at the Rumble though :D

Is the capsule coming open on that hydro in the pic?

Looks like it. I think if you'll look closer you'll see that it's not a hydro, but rather an F1 or SST type tunnel. (yeah, yeah, I know............. tunnels are technically hydros, but usually we save the term for the 3 point type that don't have sponsons all the way to the rear like a tunnel does.:) )

tunnels are technically hydros  I haven't heard a Tunnel called a Hydro technically.Hydro's are supposed to blow the tail and tunnels are supposed to ride on it.Your getting soft Norris.:D  I guess thats administration takin control.lol

Here are the results:

River Racer:
Greg Cyranoski

Pro Outlaw:
Blake Sewell

Unlimited:
Craig Alstott

The water was pretty good yesterday, but today it got kinda' sloppy for the top speed runs, so not many boats ran.

There's more than meets the eye. Roger ran into some nasty rollers 80 ft before the end of the run, he bounced around, and his gearshift cable or linkage broke, throwing it out of gear. His midsection cracked halfway around from the sudden release of torque, supposedly. Ouch. I'm glad Roger coasted away from that run safely...

Yep it went down right at the ramp, light boat that ran in some VERY ROUGH water going down to the dam as part of the poker run, Jon just picked it Friday morning rigged it friday afternoon and showed up early Sat morning with his 200 PM on a 15" midsection, fast work by Extreme marine folks in Waterford, Wi.

It blew out a small corner of the sponson in the back right hand corner, I'm sure that Extreme marine and Jeff Baker will ber VERYbusy this week

The boat was pulled out water drained heads pulled, oiled down fresh gas put in and ran the motor within an hour, I'm sure Jon is glad Bob Albe and company are good friends

Someone pointed out to him that his boat appeared to be sinking. He immediately put it on plane, a slow painful heavy plane, he made a big loop and came in and shut it down near shore, within 50 feet of the launch ramp. The water was still fairly deep there, and the rear end went down within 15 seconds after they stopped and jumped out. It was very sad to see it sink.

There were immediately several boats there with swimmers to help. And yes, within minutes, the tools were out and went to work. They successfully dry fired the motor in the park about 45 minutes later, bringing forth cheers and applause from everyone who heard it. Then, down to the ramp to run it for a while on the trailer.

Hang in there buddy, boats can be fixed, you cannot. It didn't come apart at speed, and nobody got hurt (right?), and that's the important thing here.

After that poker run, I found myself checking my bottom for cracks, but it looked OK. It handled some exceptionally rough water at over 75 mph for several miles. Wow, what a rush, but freaky!

Here's the two poker run hull injuries that I'm aware of. The Mirage in question, and a 21 Eliminator...

Great to see everyone at the Rumble. Great time as usual! :)

Your right Pyro my mid cracked but it went all the way around. When I hit the roller my shift cable popped off on the motor. It might have been a good thing???   Not sure on that part? All I know it was one heck of a ride and I am glad the mid is the only thing that broke. I had to clean my shorts after that run! LOL! :D The boat is a 2002 Pugh SST120. It is all wood. I got it from Brian Tabara and his brother this spring. My first race, which I lost to that sweet looking Purple STV from Toronto, I ran 111 mph at the 700 ft mark on NOS. Bad hole shot and/or prop choice on my part cost me both my races. The second run lost to another fast STV but I was tracking him down hard until the roller. All the guys in Unlimited were very good and fast. Congrats to Craig for winning. He won on pure motor and a lot of smarts. AWESOME!!! I am still learning the boat and thanks to all those who gave me some good things to change to get faster. (Steve with the Sweet Hydro!)

A special thanks to Rick Conklin who reminded me about the 7/16" nut that needed to be tightened more on the shift cable so it doesn't come off again. ;) ;) ;)

Kudos to the Water Patrol for keeping the tubers and jet skis far away from the site, and for negotiating with the the tugboat operators to ease off the throttle, keeping the huge prop wash under control in the race area.

Roger, you would have took him by a nose if that roller hadn't tossed that light little tunnel around so bad. You were pulling like a bitch and chasing him down fast when you hit that chop. Here's the video (http://media.putfile.com/Roger-at-the-Rumble) You can hear the motor rev like hell for a split second right before the finish, then coast across the finish in neutral. Greg got a sweet shot too I see, presumably that's the run in question, since the hatch was already mentioned, and the obvious air under the boat as it hit the rough.

This is a frame from the video, this was from behind the finish bouy, not a good vantage point, and it was so hazy that I had to darken the "dot" in Photoshop to make it more visible.

Too bad about that Mirage. It's a SUPER light race boat and was not designed to be run on regular lake/river type water. They'll have to spend a lot of time and money making it strong enough to use as an every day boat. Sounds like it was fast though for a ProMax 200. We sold Jim his original boat, but it was too heavy for him to get down to 1250 (he wanted to run Pro Comp at the time) so Mirage built him another boat and his original boat went to Parker Rabe....thank God they built that one strong enough for Parker...who knows what kind of destruction would have happened if it weren't built that strong :D

Roger especially for learning the boat so quickly and keeping it in one pc after hitting such rough water! Call me when you get a chance or shoot me an email. I think you did spectacular for never running before and for choosing the baddest class you could find! Now we need to get RL to repair that mid he did up for us. Awesome looking photos of everyone Greg. Again congrats to all the participants.

ModVP, to bad about the hull, hopefully Jon can get it fixed. That was/is a real nice hull.

I wouldn't be too worried, the guys at Extreme Marine in Waterford, WI where Jon is from (and is friends with) do excellent glass work. That boat ran well into the 100's with a 200 ProMax with the oil injections still hooked up:eek:

Unfortunately it's not just about the fix. Believe me, I know my brother can do great work. The problem is the entire hull is not built for that kind of use. It's strictly for race use on smooth water. We had a hard time convincing Mirage to even build the boat that light. It may keep breaking - just in different spots - unless the entire hull is beefed up which may mean taking the deck off, etc. If it can be fixed, Jeff can do it, but we've tried to convert many race boats to lake boats in the past and they tend to keep breaking just in front of where you fixed it last.

I haven't seen it so I can't speak in certainties. I hope that that's not the case, but as a lesson, I think it's something for everybody to think about how they're going to use a boat before they buy one that's really light. I've seen guys out looking for really light boats when they plan on racing them on a lake or river. One thing to keep in mind is that light boats are not necessarily FASTER than stronger, heavier boats. They will be QUICKER accelleration wise, but they're not always FASTER. They certainly don't break as much and you can actually walk on the deck which is saying a lot when you're trying to jump from the pier to the boat at Blarney Island, etc.

I hope he gets it worked out, but it's going to be a lot of down time and a lot of money when maybe a slightly heavier boat would have been better in the long run for him.

Good luck to Jon. It was great seeing that he went to Evansville. Hopefully he can make the full circuit next year.

It sounds like everybody had a blast though. I totaled my Truck and didn't get another one until Saturday, so I've been unable to go anywhere with the boat for over a month. Maybe next year....

I am with Sam on this one.
I was there with Chris Spaeth, son of John who has forgotten more about glass than I will ever know. He didn't think it could be fixed...... at least not so it was like it was before.
The boat is THIN, there is not a lot of glass to get a good bite on ( you have to grind the old first ). Where the real problem lays is the the boat is ultra thin, so it flex's. If the repair is stiffer, it will crack infront of the repair just as Sam said. Reguardless the joint will be stiffer and it will break again.
Sadly, in my opinion I think that beautiful boats life is done. I would also be concerened with the integaraty of the rest of the hull. The kid driving it, drove it like he stole it..... sad really.
